Next Years DCC Room (kinda long)

We have to do this again , I know from my experience everyone and that includes the pro's who stopped in from time were having the time of their lives
and it was a pleasure to be a part of if only for the short time I was there.

Stefano Pelinga ,Sarah Rousey, BCA Master Instructor Tom Simpson ,Shawn Putnam and the others (I cant remember all of them,there were that many)
all stopped in and gladly gave us their valuable time and experience(s).

It was Pool's Social Extravaganza where mere mortals met the Kings of our sport and we realized that they too are human and need to schmooze with us as much as we want to schmooze with them ,it's just that there is a right place and right time and our joint effort with 0nepocket.org provided just that , it was a sight to see , For a short time I felt a kinship there with some of them and that was due to all of our loves for the game and it showed me that with a lot of work and plenty of practice that it is possible to climb to the top.

This year laid down a road map of how to make it better next year and I tell you we were not off by much ! The groundwork has been set and it can only get better as time goes on ..

I was approached by Alan Hopkins asking if we could show up at Valley Forge
if that tells us anything ? and maybe some food for thought ? If we appeared
that well to them maybe there is something to be said for our efforts .

I feel that we provided a haven of sorts for the pro's and amateur alike that may be lacking in the sport and with further thought and planning would ultimately provide nothing but good for all involved . I'm not saying this is the missing link that would propel pool to new heights but I do feel it is a link nonetheless .

Promoters are out there working their asses of to provide us with places to play with little or no mention and I think they need to be brought to the forefront because it is they who are actually in the trenches fighting to keep our sport afloat.

Greg Sullivan of Diamond Billiards was everywhere and anywhere at once . I watched him working his ass off to provide the finest tournament I have ever been to .. I have been to Vegas 3 times and I can safely say from my exxperience that once you eliminate the pomp and glitter they dont hold a candle to Greg's efforts at the DCC and it only took me 3 1/2 hours to DRIVE there lol:D

I have a few ideas for next years room because I was kind of left in charge for a while and took note of things for next years room

I had to come home late tuesday nite ,I actually had to pry myself out at 3 a.m.
so I would still be awake enough for the 4 hour drive home. I "see" and feel things in depth and with my sense of humor I try to relate them to others as I see them ( My mother always said that I marched to a different drummer) it was a blast to me JAM and I am now envious of the world you live in and I always felt like I was living it thru your posts on RSB and now I know the flavor in which you present them ... I wish I could make all the tournaments and write a your average man on the street newsletter . Now I know what running away to join the circus must feel like. It was breathtaking ! I will from now on always consider Sarah Rousey and Stefano Pelinga as friends and will be glued to the tube whenever they perform their feats of magic , Thats what it feels like to me, magic ,magic of a sort that I aspire to and know its just within my grasp but for now eludes me, and probably always will , But now when I practice alone I can at least dream of being the best there is and maybe thats just what I need to take me to the next level.

I know it sounds sappy but I do believe I will never look at the game(s) the same way as before DCC, I just wish You and the Keither had been there , after all these years of BSing in newsgroups and forums it is great to put a face to the names ........

wow im jealous. I would have loved to attended the event....and to think there would be a room there waiting on me with people i knew (from here) would definitely be a huge comfort and further reason to attend. Due to my job i cant really travel fomr jan -april..........but maybe this az room can start taking place at all the events, I could make it to the open, ive actually been planning on going to it for years, if there was to be an az room there i would definitely go.

What was the Cost of Motel Hotel Rooms at the DCC, (near the DCC) as it sounds like fun. Maybe NEXT Year I could swing it.

All the close ones are at least $79- U have to go to the Red Roof or Super 8 to find cheaper from what I know and they are a mile or 2 away-Better off in Executive if u dont mind the noise.

A standard room at the tournament site- Executive West- is $69 a night plus tax. Not bad considering you never have to leave til you're falling over in your chair. Sam

Allan Hopkins asked me if was possible to bring our room to his show at Valley Forge and I think that in itself was one of the best compliments any one could ever recieve !


Ratchet - If they were everywhere the uniqueness would be lost imo !

Sure sounds like fun and I sure hope I can make the DCC next year.

From watching the 2004 BCN telecast, the DCC seems to be the real world carnival of pool with pros and fans and gambling all coming together.

Here are a couple of tips to make next year even better:
- AZ Room online video-cam. Get it sponsored for a few hundred $ should cover the costs and let all the AZ'ers look in on the room
- Have an official AZ poster's tourney (must make over 200 posts in the previous 12 months to qualify).
- Print out some of the most memorable / funny AZ forum posts on a noticeboard to introduce room visitors to the forum.
- Collect detailed room stats for match performances, entry and exit times, drinks consumed etc...just so I have something to calculate and make graphs out of :D

Added: Another idea, if someone wants to get more serious, is to expand the room to provide a hospitality section and possibly booths or signage space for sponsors. Could offer packages to event contributors so they'd have somewhere to go to relax, have a drink, entertain their VIP clients etc. It may be something the organizer would like to offer but has too much on his plate already.

A hospitality bar/room would be cool as I was trying be a good host I kept asking all of our pro guests if they wanted something to drink and then had to run to the bar to get them lolol ....Of course I had to pay for them myself ( I felt honored lol) some of them offered to pay me back for them and I refused( I was like a deer caught in headlights most of the time I was there ) ..IF we want to do this next year and keep it on the cheap we will need a large cooler for stuff and if alcohol is added, some cash for it all needs to be considered as a former bartender a bottle or two would've been nice to offer them an adult beverage if they so desired ( I doubt many would ,they are there for a payday) and as always consumed in moderation for the rest of the room .....I was one man trying my best to represent all of AZB to not only ourselves but to our professional guests as well ....and the Smoking issue needs to be addressed more clearly ,it was never settled here I guess ? I ,and others got caught up in the backwash , I ended up smoking outside for the duration ,and please dont let it get blown out of proportion we had 2 rooms available to us most of the time we were there but the one next door was a pay table and could have been used by the smokers.... Next year maybe the organizer(s) will have more time and more help ....Everyone should remember that this was our inaugaural year and a learning one and as great as it was the next one will in one word be just simply dynamite.

Ratchet - it was allready unreal (or surreal) this year but maybe that was due to my lack of sleep lololol

All in all it was you all that showed up that made it a phenominally resounding success and I am proud to be associated with such fine people !

WBM and OHB oughtta get a trophy !!and what can I say about Randi other than she was great and oughtta get a medal ......

Just an FYI. We were prohibited from serving alcohol by the hotel (age verification issues). Just a few soda's and ice each day would be $400 per day by the hotel (and we were NOT permitted to cater it in ourselves). A dry erase board was $40 per day from the hotel (I bought one for $40). A television was $50 per day (with closed circuit feed extra).

If there is a room next year, it will definitely be non-smoking; as we were notified by the hotel that it MUST be non-smoking (after they caught someone smoking in the room).

I have discussed the issue of a 2007 AZB room with Greg Sullivan and Mark Griffin; and there were some rather surprising ideas thrown around; I'll post a thread on the subject as soon as I receive some more feedback from Greg.

I arrived at the DCC with no room reservations. I figured it's a big town and I'd find a room somewhere. I went to the counter at the Executive West just to see if a room was available. The lady said, "Not yet." I thought that was an odd response. I waited until 2 hours after checkout and asked again. There were 9 rooms available. It was also very reasonable at $69.00

I also loved the fact that there was no smoking.
 
OK that clears that up , I have another idea then ,as a Life member of Amvets when we go to a state or national convention we rent an extra room or two
they are called "hospitality rooms "and each post provides something in the way of refreshments separate of the "main" function .....that could be something to toss around but then it also becomes a money issue I know...

Greg & Mark approached me after only a couple days there with some interesting options as well I,and I told them that I was but a small fish in a big pond and they would have to wait to talk to you, I know for sure that they (especially Gregg) were enamored then by the idea of next years room and I bet next years negotiations will go smoother than this ones .

Ratchet - has suitcase packed allready ! lol
