I'm not sure how much of a role the captains play in this thing(other than riling up Dennis Hatch). Don't they get to pair teams and pick the order the players appear in? If so, I think Nicky deserves some lovin. He's sharp as a tack and knows the game better than anyone. I can't help but think he played a big time (behind the scenes) role in "the game plan"

Nick is one of the best players and also a great ambassator to the game.

He has won more tournaments and championships than anyone.

A good choice for captain.

That's kinda what I was thinking.... I figured with all the congratulations getting spread around, the least we could do is throw some nicky's way!

I hope Team USA brings Nick and Thee Cup to the Turning Stone this week so all the fans can see it. That would give them more time to rub it in as Team Euro will be there too !

Great job by Nick Varner as the captian !

Nick Varner is one of the most unheralded all time greats in pool. He's got World Championships in all 5 major pool disciplines...14.1, 8 Ball, 9 Ball, One Pocket & Banks. He is a great commentator whenever Accu-Stats had him in their booth. He is fan friendly, has a great personality and a squeeky clean image. What more could we ask for in a player?

I've asked the people at Billiard's Digest and Pool & Billiard Magazine for several years to do an in-depth interview or feature story on Nick. This may be the event that could spur them to give him some ink.

I was there with Nick at the M-Cup, I was the unofficial captians assistant. It was a honor to be asked by Nick to help out, and I did-I was exhausted by the last day. We started of Tuesday night with a players meeting at my house, Nick had prepaired a speech and format for that meeting that set the tone for the whole event. he said we arnt going to lose thi on the line up, he picked the right players at the right time-all the players were involved in those discussions( I was as well, they wanted me to be-what a honor).

Nick was amazing just amazing from the beginning to the end. The team had the right chemistry the whole time. There wasnt one awakward moment or single argument, Ernesto was also involved in alot of behind the scenes stuff too, we racked balls, he helped the guys with their breaks, I watched which balls were going where and racked for them too, it was a family the whole team was a family. Nich was the boss. Everyone played their roll perfectly. Cory was great helping Oscar and Dennis in the players room. It all just worked out from Tuesday night until they lifted the cup.

Fatboy.... you are one lucky dog! Getting to have all those guys over at the house would be cool enough, but actually playing a role and taking part in the conversations and plan would be the proverial "icing"

I was triple lucky, and it was the biggest honor I ever had in pool, to be a part of the team. That will most likely be the biggest honor I ever have in pool. When I got the call and was asked to help I couldnt believe it. Of course they could have done fine without me-I'm not taking any credit for the win, but I did live up to what I was asked to do by Nick.

Nick Varner is not only one of the greatest players that has ever played the game, he has mastered many different disciplines and continues to be a competitive force wherever he goes.

Nick does a great job doing commentary and I can vouch for that as well.

The resulting win of the U.S. Mosconi Cup Team which Nick chaired is the proof in the pudding.

Way to go, Nick!

I think Nick Varner was one of those players in the tourny in 1991 when Mike Lebron won the tourny. It was a invite tourny only. Mike Sigel was the td and everybody knows what happened. imo if Doyle Brunson played a poker tourny like that when u know the out come in adv advance that is not to brag about.
