Nick Varner's Cue Collection

Great to see Nick Varner but I lost track how many times Nick got cut off or interrupted when he was getting ready to say something - man he needs to get out of his on way when he’s interviewing someone.

I’m sure no disrespect was intended but I always feel like it’s a loss when something was about to be said and then we’ll never know.

I was sweating the cue show on Facebook, and this venue was striking. I definitely recognize that guy in the blue shirt. ;)

It was an incredible setting for the 16th International Cue Collectors Show. The Gilded Age-era Silver Ballroom at the historic Read House Hotel in Chattanooga, TN was the perfect backdrop for showcasing some of the world’s finest cue collections.

Varner has always been my favorite. So cool to see this.

Looking back it's likely that I felt an affinity for Varner and Sigel because of their relationship to Joss cues back then. And they have both been "cue guys", many pros just aren't.

I wanted to make this show so bad, and the crazy redhead said no because we would be away somewhere else. Well, I should have checked myself because she go the weekend wrong. She does have brain damage...

The cue Show that Nick said that he missed in Santa Fe I was able to go to - I’d have liked to have seen him!

Kudos to Crossroad Cues for putting out some exceptional content this weekend. I loved the questions CC had for Nick! They were exactly what us cue nuts would want to know. Great job on all of the content this weekend.

Nick might be my favorite person to talk to in this industry. He talks very slow but damn if he doesn't make every word that comes out of his mouth matter. He was telling me once about his habit of wearing a cue tip down to nearly nothing when many players were swapping out every few months or so. At one tournament, Buddy Hall spotted Nick's cue sitting on the table and grabbed it and started hitting balls with it.

"Nick," he said. "It's about time for you to change this tip."

Varner looked at it and said, "Buddy, I probably got two or three more tournament wins in that tip."

I always thought tips played their best when they are really, really low.

Nick Varner is a humble, sincere man with plenty to brag about - but he never does. Every word he speaks carries weight, and it’s a loss when interviewers cut him off. A man like him deserves the time to be heard.

You gave a perfect description - “damn if he doesn't make every word that comes out of his mouth matter.”

Nick and his partner beat me and Tod in the ICCS tournament on Thursday night. We got one shot, I blew it, and they ran the table and then racked and ran the second set.

It was an honor getting my ass kicked by him!
