To this day, I love the nicknames that pool players get. Only in pool do you get people, like Pooch, bucktooth, scorpion, pearl, dragon, Piggy Banks, Kid Delicious, etc. etc. etc.

So If you have a good nick name, or know a nickname that has a phenomal story behind it, please post it. I always love hearing about all the different handles out there, especially the ones that have some sort of story with it!!

Mine doesn't really have much of a story behind it. I just used to always where different comicbook superhero shirts and some top players started calling me batman.....

Several

:( I've been called the 'trashman' because I'll run the first 7 balls; and then 'the curse' because I will then often roll up on top of the 8 with no place to shoot it or hook myself behind the 9 and then have to kick 3 rails to try to hit the 8. I just cant finish. Opponents just wait patiently for the wheels to come off and then either shoot two hangers or take ball in hand and get out.

I love/hate this game.

3railkick(see why?)

Several folks have call me "Crazyman”, or said I was a "Crazyman” because of things I do in the Pool Room on purpose to irritate other players, and sometime in life that drive others nuts.

Like when I got to a place like Wal-Mart I will every once in a while when in the Pharmacy Section, put a Giant Super Size Box of Condoms in some 70 + year old shopper’s shopping cart. :D :D :D :D

Nicknames

A friend of mine at the pool hall has the nickname of bean. This is a great story. When he was in high school there was a raffle to support the senior class. For a week in the cafeteria there was a giant container of jelly beans and the students would pay to guess how many jelly beans were in it. Whoever came closest would win all the jelly beans. Chris went up and made his guess and the next day was informed he guessed exactly right! He somehow knew there were 1,087 jelly beans in the container and from that point on was called bean.

My nickname has nothing to do with pool, pool halls, betting, gambling, games, sports or anything. I just adopted it for pool because I kinda like it, but I don't know why.

A little over seven years ago my uncle got divorced. The result of the divorce was something many people are familiar with, he kept the house but very little of the furniture.

My family and I went down to visit him (he lives in the US and I live in Canada) soon after the seperation. My parents got a guest room with a bed. I on the other slept in a bare empty room with a cot in the centre, with a bare lightbalb hanging down from the ceiling. It looked as if I was sleeping in a Mexican prison cell. As a result my uncle joked that Im a prisoner.

Now my uncle was a huge fan the late 60's television show "The Prisoner" with Patrick McGoohan. This led to him calling me THE prisoner "wait! he's number six". For anyone who hasn't watched the show, the place that number 6 was imprisoned looked nothing like a prison cell, not in the least.

Over the past seven years, I can not remember him refering to me as Cameron. He always calls me six, or number six. His kids call me six, or number six. Furthermore we haven't even mentioned the show in years. I have told my friends about it and a few of them now call me six, or number six. It was only natural to adopt the nickname for pool (I have it written on my cue case).

Its not a really an exciting story or even that funny but, meh. You wanted a nickname story.

Many Filipino players, even the lesser known pro's have nicknames:
Dennis "Surigao" Orcollo - bcoz he's from Surigao, Philippines
Ronnie "Calamba" Alcano - from Calamba, Laguna
Antonio "Ga Ga" Gabica - first part of his last name doubled
Jeff "Jeff Bata" de Luna - he'll take risky shots and try to emulate his idol Efren; he's only 21 and has one heck of a break.
Rodolfo "Boy Samson" Luat - supposedly he broke a cue ball on a break
Leonardo "Dodong" Andam - common name for someone from th Visayas region (middle region of the Philippines)
Jose "Amang" Parica - "Amang" is a title given to older men, especially used as a sign of respect
Antonio "Nickoy" Lining - not sure about this one

they call me the POOL DETECTIVE.....guess it might be cuz i am nosy and hafta know what is going on all the time. yet i don't get involved....mike

Nickname...

I have had 3 over 44 years of playing:

1) Mako (Lil Shark) when I first played the road at 18.
2) Lil Scotman - just sort of picked up.
3) Snapshot - Given to me by Skeet Bushor, TD and publisher of the Indianapolis Pool news after I won a qualifier tournament at the Billiard
Cafe in Indy beating Brian Groce in the finals.

Pigeon is slang for a mark or sucker. Somebody who feeds the pool hustlers so to speak.

LOL, Cameron, Samiel was making a joke and attempting to be sarcastic. I've been to his pool hall, no one calls him that...at least not to his face.

*pokes Samiel in the side laughing*

The cool thing about nicknames is that you can't give one to yourself....I mean really what grown man would want to be called Kid Delicious.....not to bust on Danny, but that's the weirdest one I've heard in a long time.....If I could choose a nickname I'd probably go for "The Castrator" or "The Moil" but that's just me. Then there's the old reliable Gillette for those razor cuts.....

Banger, do you know, or ever run into a guy named Lou Johnson from Delaware? He's an old friend from way back....

Gerry

Lou Johnson

Never met him that I know of.... Only lived here since 99 before that I was in Dale City Va and I wasn't playing pool then

OK cool......keep an eye out, He played jammup 1pocket, and had a sweet Bushka, but rarely played with it. Delaware Dogs was another one that was a super strong player, and he taught my teacher.

Have you ever played at Russell Parsons room Diamond Billiards?....if it's still there?
