Last night I watched the replay of the world 9 ball finals, Niels Feijen vs Albin Ouschan.
What stuck with me throughout today, and caused me to start this thread, was the reaction by Niels upon winning this elusive title he has been chasing in his career. From the primal scream of triumph to when he goes right for his cell phone to call his wife at home, and sits toward the back of the arena, breaks down in sheer emotion and exhaustion.
How can you not love this story and this player? It was very touching and shows the human side of this game. I saw it as being a great sports story, with a triumphant ending (especially after reading the article on Niels in Billiards Digest a month or two ago).
I just wanted to see if anyone else saw this and cared to comment. It really shouldnt go unnoticed or unacknowledged, now when I start to get frustrated or facing difficult and monotonous drills, all I have to do is remember Niels in that chair. Pure triumph of a blue collar athlete family man.
Very inspirational. Congratulations Niels.
