Its been over a month now using no ferrule, and i love every thing about the look, the feel and hit. Some of the league members meet at my house couple times a month to play one pocket. Using the no ferrule cue, i have found that i am fouling the cue ball quite a bit.{ touching it with the tip when i'm getting ready to shoot } Go back to my playing cue of 5 years i do not foul the cue ball. I guess i'm just too old to learn how to play all over again. chuck

When I had a ferrule-less shaft, I used to love showing the tip of my cue to people, and asking them if they could see a crack in the ferrule. :D

no photos

sorry, a friend has the cue so, no photos. i did not really notice and deflection difference from any of my other shafts. chuck

I can also vouch for how good it plays as my son has been using one for a year or two now. It sure does get dirty behind the tip though.

I also use a shaft without a ferrule and like the hit alot.
I use a pad on the back of the tip. I also hollow the front 6 inches of the shaft out. This does result in a reduction of deflection in my opinion.

try using a black marker and "create" a 1 inch ferule to improve your depth perception on your stroke. just a suggestion.

I have two shafts that measure 11.2mm and have no ferrule. I like the feel, the look and the performance.

Friends tell me the shaft will split and that's why ferrules were invented. I tell them that was back in the days of rags in the cushions, huge and heavy balls and heavily napped cloth. Shots had to be hit considerably harder and shafts would get damaged. Not so these days.

I would think the shafts w/no ferrule would be better for the games that require very few power shots.

Ferruless...

Interesting point of "NO ferrule" here ! I was just about to ask how much could we turn down a "shaft/ferrule" without compromissing the job of the ferrule; I guess my question was answered even before I've posted:rolleyes:
As always, Tons of info here with you guys............... Rick

I think I got my information to try this from Bob Jewett. If I remember right he plays with a thin ferruless shaft. But.. it could have been somebody else. As I type this memory says that Patrick Johnson plays with a shaft that measures 10.5mm but I think his is with a ferrule. Oh well.

Where to you get one? You take an old shaft and have it cut off, or you have a shaft made. I had an old cue with a long shaft so I didn't mind cutting it off. The other one I have was not a long shaft but I don't mind a 57" cue if it has a long thin taper.

The funny thing is my SP (moneymaker) has been sanded down so many times, that I believe my ferrule is as thin as paper by now, every time i change my own tip I notice that sooner or later I'll have to replace the ferrule, The shaft is about 11.5 by now;;;; The thing is, I've been turning down the shaft, and the ferrule @ the same time...
