No jump cue for Efren Reyes

Maybe you guys know this already, but I thought it was an interesting fact that Efren Reyes has never used a jump cue. It was mentioned by the commentators at the 2006 U.S. Open 9-ball championship and they had Accu-Stats verify it. I assume it would still be true.

It was a match posted by Billiard Club, http://youtube.com/watch?v=of3wo__UxUY.

thats funny beacuse Ive seen efren use a jump cue in an earlier us open video posted by bclub. I think he was playing either corey or daulton, forgot what year it was though.

Judging from that video he jumps pretty well as he pots a ball off of a jump shot.

Efren has a jump cue.
His first one was an Andy.
He used it the first UPA event at the Bicycle Casino back in 2005.

I believe I saw the same video but he missed the shot. It was the first and only time I have ever seen him jump a ball. The commentator even said something about Efren not being very good at jumping because he does it so rarely.

When you can kick as good as Efren a jump cue is just more junk to weigh down your cue case.:)

For the record I too have seen him use a jump cue.

Efren knows how to jump, in fact he and Earl can jump using the whole stick, which is far more difficult than using the short jump cue. It s just that he can control and predict the outcome of a kick better than a jump shot.

I've seen Efren make a couple of small jumps before, over the edges of balls, but that video was the first time I've seen him use a jump cue. My jaw almost dropped. It felt so wrong to see it, actually. I don't have a problem with jump cues myself, but to see Efren use one just seemed...unholy.:)

I think that's not the one that you saw. the video which the guys were referring at was the one where he pots the OB perfectly and yes, it also landed perfectly as well. however, a 1 out of 2 attempts is not or cannot be considered as a conclusive statistic, since he doesn't do a jump that often compared to most pros nowadays. unless of course we see him do it at a regular basis in tourneys this year.

info, you might be not aware of this, but Efren jumps as well as Earl does. except that Efren much likely prefers to kick.

Efren is certainly the best player I've ever seen, but I find this claim hard to believe. I'm sure he can use a modern jump cue to get over a ball, pocket another one, and get position on a third, but Earl is (was, at least) truly amazing. Using a full cue, not many could compete with him.

Note that I am not saying you are wrong, only that I'll have to see it to believe it.

I found the video here.

He takes the cue out around 21 minutes and 30 seconds.

Guess they were wrong. That was funny, they were talking about how Earl doesn't think you're a man if you use a jump cue.

Junk??

Sheesh... there are situations where ONLY a jump cue will get you out of jail.

It's ok and can't blame you, since most of us would prefer some proof, not excluding myself. anyway, how long it has been since most players started using the modern jump cue? Efren started playing 4 decades ago with a full cue. this might shed some light on the matter. besides, he's Efren. a skill shot such as the jumpshot would not be that difficult for him to learn.

Earl will say anything to get under someone's skin.

Kind of like the fellow who said real men don't put cream in their coffee. Give me a break.

Some of the guys I know want to ban them, probably because they don't know how to use them effectively, and wish to eliminate an opponent's slight advantage if he jumps decently.

this gives me an idea. why don't they start a new game called Jump Pool? that would justify the use for those things.

I can't tell you how many times my "home made" jump cue (take a cheapie regular shaft with a 5/16X18 joint, cut off the ferrule, install a phenolic tip, take a 5/8" dowel rod and cut it so when installed on the shaft the cue is over 40" long, install a 5/16 X 18" bolt with the head cut off in the butt section, thin the butt down so it's really light) has saved my you know what in tournaments and some other games. A new game called Jump Pool is just fine; in the meantime, my ugly jump cue will continue to see action, including in straight pool and one pocket games...
