Someone on here said someone in the booth from TS/AZB stream said no points for 7' tables this year. Anyone know if it is true? Johnnyt

The MC is played on a 9' table. I made most off my good scores on bar boxes over the years. When I had my best years, I was a "B" player on a 9' table and an "A+" on the BB. Johnnyt

I'm pretty sure if it were true, Matchroom would have said something by now. Johnnyt

Not really, as they have only announced points events through Derby so far. They can't announce anything with appropriate advanced notice other than maybe the dates for the Mosconi

Im sure some people wont like this but 7' tables are here to stay. I have both a 9' and 7' table at home, its not like it takes a different skill set to play on each. I dont know why people dont embrace 7' tables, if they hold out for 9' tables they may not be playing much longer.

People hold out for 9 footers because there aren't any 10 footers around. The only time I play 7 footers is at the Expo. I do realize that in some areas of the country all there are are 7 footers.

I have never set foot in Texas but about 20 years ago, i was told they have mostly 8 foot tables there. Is this still true-Was it ever true?

Then why do you have both?

One reason is international competition, which is the subject of this thread. If Americans play primarily on small tables, it's going to be that much harder for them to play on larger tables in international competition like Mosconi, World 9-ball, etc.

Because he plays league and tournaments on 7' tables, but prefers to play on 9'
tables...that's why he has both. I know several people who own both size tables, for the same reason.

In Austin a lot of our pool halls have 8 footers. The best hall here, Skinny Bobs, has 14 GCs and 8 diamond bar boxes. Not sure about dallas Houston or San Antonio

I get that - I have both grass and clay tennis courts at my estate, because I like to practice on both haha.

I understand why he would want to practice on both - they're different, so you need to keep up with both styles. But I don't understand how he can then say that they aren't really different. They're different enough that he wants to practice on both!

I think it does take a different skillset to play on a 9 footer. I play on a 7 footer most of the time (I have one in my garage and play in a bar table league) and when I go to a pool hall to practice on a 9 footer my level of play is noticeably worse. After about an hour of play, it does improve- but still not to the level of what I play on a 7 footer. I doubt I'm the only person for whom this is true.

I think if Mr Griffin would compromise w 8 footers, he wouldn't catch much heat at all.

Thank you, Scott, you understand.

The biggest reason I have both is that my Gold Crown has been "Diamondized" and it plays so similar to a Diamond that if I played on only Diamond bar boxes I would be golden. But I also play on Valley bar boxes which play considerably different than the Diamonds. The Diamond and Valley bar box plays completely different. Diamond=fast rails/fast cloth, Valley with Championship=fast cloth/slow rails, its the diffence between tables rather than sizes I need to come to terms with.
