Fast Eddies 9 ball Tour is in it's 6th year and we have always held pretty nice auctions, but now it has stopped.
We kicked the year off in San Angelo and had a real nice event and San Angelo was a great host. I even stated that I thought it was the friendliest city I had ever been to. It was just great.
Someone however must not have been too happy about us being there as they called the TABC and snitched us off for having a player auction. The TABC is the Texas Alcohol and Beverage Commision. If you sell booze in Texas, you live under their microscope.
Right after the January event the TABC called Fast Eddies managemenand inquired about the auctions and they in turn gave them my name and phone Number and told them they should deal with me on the issue.
I recieved a call from someone on Thursday before the February 2-3 tournament and this person asked many questions about the event in San Angelo and more specificaly about the {as he kept calling it}, the calcutta. He never identified himself as a TABC agent or officer, but I had a pretty good idea who he was as he asked too many questions and sounded,,,,,,,, pretty green or naieve, to put it nicely.
He then called Fast Eddies ownership and was proud of what information he pulled from me, which I promise was very little and stated that he understood that we were calling it a player auction instead of a calcutta and said that whatever I called it, "it is what it is". If we do not cease and desist, they would revoke Fast Eddies liquor license and that was about all it took.
Fast Eddies has been a great host of this tour for over 5 years and has grown into 20 locations across Texas with 2 being in Louisiana. When someone has that type of money invested, you have to take notice of the TABC whether you like it or not. I think everyone understands that. I don't blame them at all.
The most asked question I'm getting is who snitched us off? I don't know and I guess it really doesn't matter as the harm has been done and even if I knew who the Chicken Shit Weasel was, there isn't much I could do about it.
An attorney looked into this and there is nothing we could do at this point and furtherly pointed out to me that in Texas, in the past, there have been two arrests over calcuttas and zero prosecutions.
To all who have supported the auctions in the past, my apologies. You are appreciated and we hope you continue to come out, although I know some friends will be lost. If anything should cahge I will call you myself as soon as I know.
BUT, the tour will continue and the schedule will remain in tact as is.
As my Grandmother always said, when one door closes, another opens.
The players meeting will still begin at noon and play will begin about 2 hours earlier than it has in the past. Many should take careful note of this. This also means we will finish a bit earlier on Saturdays and Sundays which is good for those who travel across the big state of Texas. Because of this, we will be able to offer ring games on Friday and Saturday now.
