It occurred to me that Golf, while it also has player auctions is more of an "upper class" sport. How long have club memberships been given away that cost six figures. Golf is a social event allowing persons in power to make deals and decisions while leisurely beating the crap out of a little white ball.
Oh, BTW....Lawyers, judges, politicians and lobbiests are the ones that make our laws when they aren't at the country club betting in the golf calcuttas.
It's ridiculous......just like the smoking ban in a local city here. The church bussed people out to the polls to save us all from the evil "legal" weed. Now the club owner I play for had to make an outdoor smoking room and his business is way down. Yet the VFW, Knights Of Columbus and American Legion halls allow smoking because they are non-profit.
If that isn't the dumbest Sh*t I ever heard of.....goes right along with their ban on hard alcohol sales. Bunch of in-breeders

Fast Eddies is growing into a big company and has had growing pains , made mistakes, and paid for them.
The auctions have gone on for 5 plus years and there has never been on problem until an individual called the TABC and reported us. Did they know about it sooner? My gut tells me yes and that they looked the other way until someone complained and then they were forced to look. I suspect that if someone ratted on a country club to whoever, they would be forced to look into that as well.

Is Bingo allowed in TX? If so, then whats the difference? Sounds like your going to have to change the name from "calcutta" to "lottery". This whole thing BS! When I get home from this deployment, I'm thinking of opening a nice room in South MS., this sh*# makes me REALLY want to think about it!

What makes auctions illegal is: When a third person is involved, that it becomes illegal. I you and another person match up playing 20 a game and the police come in, they cant do anything about your gambling. Same senerio, and a third person is side betting with one of the players, than it becomes illegal. At least that is how it was explained to me.
Hopely, this can get resolved, but IMO, it has been a long going issue with
the TABC and Calcuttas, so don't expect any changes.

Lewis and Paul, I will continue to support the tour by playing in the events whenever possible, and believe that the overwhelming majority of the other players will continue to do so also. The calcutta was just a small part of the great experience that is had by anyone that plays or spectates at your very well run and fun events. Keep up the good work, and thanks for all that you do!

I haven't read the entire thread so perhaps this has been mentioned. In some states it is legal to have a Calcutta or Player Auction if a charity gets a bite. I have no idea about the Texas laws but this might be worth looking into. I think the donation might be ten percent or less but it has been years since I saw this information.

While kicking this issue around with an old time road player this came to light:
When a third party (person, the house, etc.) becomes involved it is then viewed as a "Game of chance" rather than a sporting event and likened to gambling
