No smoking?

I just saw a 'short reel' on my fB page where Wei Wei was penalized a game (rack) during a tournament, somewhere, because she went outside during a break she took and smoked a cigarette. It was against the rules in the tournament she was playing in. The referee gave her a yellow card and penalized her a game.

Does anyone know the reason(ing) behind such a rule? I have never heard of or seen such a rule. IMO, a player should be able to do whatever they want on their break. Although I can understand a rule against drinking and or drug taking. Anyone? TIA, lg

Cigarettes are considered the above.

Just like a guy that tells you he needs to take a crap because he ate something bad but goes outside to have a smoke instead.

Hi Billiards_watch,

Yes, I know she smoked a cigarette. And that that was stated in writing in the rules, no smoking etc etc. And she told the referee she did not know that it was against the rules. And that a player is responsible for knowing the rules.

I am asking what the reason or reasoning is for a rule against smoking a cigarette during a player break. I can understand why they have a rule about smoking at the table. Do you or does anyone else know? TIA, lg

Helping ref the Nationals the Biggest problem last yr in Vegas/Westgate was.
Not all read the rule book.
Rule 1.1....Players Responsibility.
''It's the players responsibility to be aware of all rules, regulations and schedules applying to competition.''

Now this yellow card thing w/o knowing anything that happened before it, all I can do is guess.
Usually we give one warning, then the ref can even disqualify the player ''unsportsmanlike conduct''.

It coulda been the ref and the player had some history Who Knows.
It's NOT a pro event.
Most league players think they know all the rules, because they play.
But how many players actually read All 44 pages of the rule book before play began, not all.

maybe because when they walk back in they stink.
and the property may have a no smoking policy inside or out.

My guess is to present the game in a more professional light.

The player not knowing sounds suspect to me, especially if she's a smoker. I even knew that was the rule for several years, and I've never played a pro event before. I did read the rules, however.

I was in several card games where people were dieing of lung cancer , had an oxygen bottle strapped to them and lit up a cigarette, I might sit there if you pull a gun , but the oxy bottles were even too much for me.

Because the people who made that rule are jackass's There is really no confusion here. Freedom is pretty rare.

I was told that they started this rule in some tournaments because the players had to go outside of the arena to smoke and in some cases its a good distance from the playing area and it was holding up play. There were times when both players would good out and start chatting and forget about the time allowance for breaks which can significantly delay tournaments.

Its gotten a little out of control. I get the need for weed or whatever but if it holds up play thats not cool. I took the third place Money and left a tournament because of this same issue, small tournament and small pay difference for sure, but it was 2:15am and the guys took a break, nope!

Played league with a guy toting an oxygen bottle around. Kinda broke my heart watching him step out to light one up.

freedom to smoke is only in public property and only some of that. private property you dont have that freedom and rightly so.

if you have an addiction hold it off until your match is over.

ever noticed how almost all the old time players are dead except for a few in their 60's and few make it to the 70's
