No Trust in PPV Challenge Matches

First they advertise the total purse and 'Assume" we should know it's in the middle.

Where tournaments show where the prize fund is derived (Entry fees, money added) you almost never know where the "Alleged" purse comes from in a PPV Challenge match.

There has been too many scandals of late (ie. Ko vs Dennis) to trust the backers, room owners and streamers.

Last who knows if the players split the money (PPV and reserved seating proceeds) and there is no big $XXX in the middle.

*** I do however trust TAR and Accu-Stats and would buy their PPV ***

Rant Over

Thanks for your patience

What happened with Ko vs Dennis?

PPV'S At TEACHERS BILLIARDS:

Young Guns V Old School: Flyer said the bet was $10,000. The bet was $10,000. Offered $1000 to each player to play the match at Teachers. Each player was paid $1000.

Bergman v Shaw: Flyer said the bet was $10,000. The bet was $10,000. Each player was guaranteed the PP revenue less small expenses.....minimum $1000 to play the match at Teachers. Each was paid more than that on the spot....then sent even more when final numbers came it.

You've not met anyone with more integrity.

One of his points was, does that "$10,000 bet" in the challenge match mean that it was $10,000 in the middle (each side put up/bet $5,000 each for a total of a $10,000 purse), or did each side actually put up/bet $10,000 each (in which case there is $20,000 in the middle, or a $20,000 purse). There are lot of people on both sides that refer to both ways as a $10,000 bet which is why it can be confusing since there is no uniformity on what people mean if they are not more specific. I don't have a dog in the fight, just helping to clarify one of his points, although I do believe that more precise information or communication to remove any chance for confusion is pretty much always a good thing.

Not sure why it really matters, a challenge match is just that a challenge match with players being usually paid to play for a certain amount. Then usually more to the player who wins the challenge. How much is being offered and eventually given shouldn't matter in the least, since it in reality is just a exhibition not a true gambling match. The only time I could see caring is if it was announced as a gambling match and in fact wasn't and I was betting who would win.

I just want to see two world-class players play their best.

Why would I care how much the bet is? who put up how much money? etc?

I don't get it.

I agree that it does not really matter where the money comes from. I think it is good to know whether it is a two man tournament versus a pure exhibition if you are seeking action on the side. If you are just wanting to watch for the pure fun of it, then I am not sure it really matters.

I do struggle with the blanket generalization that matches cannot be trusted based on one match. Of the many, many matches I have watched put on by TAR, Big Truck, and Teacher I have never heard of an issue with the purse being advertised well beyond what was put up for the match.

For the poster of this thread I am beginning to think you may have a bit of a trust challenge based on this thread and your comments in Erica's thread in the Live Stream section.

Of course I am just making a generalization based on two data points :eek::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Two Reasons

I just want to see two world-class players play their best.

Why would I care how much the bet is? who put up how much money? etc?

I don't get it.

1) Truth in advertising on the PPV Flyer

2) Pressure. Example: Would you rather pay to watch Boston play the Yankees in an exhibition game or for the American League Championship?

I would rather watch two top pool players knowing they are actually playing for high stakes under pressure.

Just my personal preference

Thanks for your input

It's important, because people (not me) like to bet on matches.

As much as we like to think these players will give it their all no matter what, the facts are they all play a little differently depending on the size of the bet.

This can then affect how bets are made on the match.
