Non-Simonis cloth... it feels odd.

Does anyone else feel like playing on cloth other than simonis feels weird and maybe even a little wrong? Like the ball slides too much before draw catches, or the weave is too course under your bridge hand, or the ball wants to roll off more... is this stuff just my imagination? I never played on a non-simonis cloth that I actually liked. It always feels rough or slow or just off.

If you like a certain cloth more than simonis, what is it and why?

I don't know anything about felt, but Championship cloth plays pretty consistently.

Everyting in life feels odd when one thinks something should only be a certain way.

Thats exactly what I was thinking.

I'm guessing that you got started playing on Simonis and that is what you are used to. In my opinion there are a few other good quality cloths out there. I have pro-form on my table now and it is a excellent quality cloth. Is it Simonis? No, but it is still very good and quite a bit cheaper.

My advice is get better at adapting to other cloth ( or maybe just more accepting of other cloth) Simonis is great, but allot of pool halls cant afford it anymore and are looking to alternatives.

Plus in my area there isn't a bar box around with Simonis, hell, your lucky if its any type of worsted cloth. Some of the stuff I have seen needs a haircut before you can play on it.

Once you get the hang of fast cloth -- I've got Simonis 760 on my home table -- you won't want to play on anything else. It's an acquired taste -- like good Irish whiskey.

Playing on a different table with Simonis feels odd. I have only played on my GC w/760. I thought it was fast. I played in a clubhouse with Simonis 760 and thought the speed was exceptionally faster. I thought something was wrong with my cloth or the original installer hosed me.

Our Pool room has 860HR on one of the diamonds and I can tell a big difference in how balls tend to slide on it more compared to regular 860

A quality installation can make all the difference. A tight cloth will always play faster than a loose one.

Cloth

You bet, there are tremendous differences between coverings!
Good, bad, or indifferent, we all encounter different playing conditions as we travel around to different rooms and tournaments. It is kind of like golf; no two courses are the same. Having said that, I always remind myself that my opponent is playing the same table (or course) and the winner is the one who adapts to the conditions regardless of what they may be. I find this keeps my attitude much better and my focus more keen.

I've played on simonis cloth quite a bit and I prefer a slower cloth. Not that I can't control it on either, I just like having the to power the ball around the table. Takes a good stroke. Same goes for snooker, slow cloth is my preference. You don't get as many big breaks due to the balls not opening as nicely, but it feels all the more better when you do.
