Not For Me

The room I play at is for sale.It is a small town room,5 tables and no food or alcohol. The place is pretty old and dated, kind of like the guys...my self included that hang out there. I told my wife I would be finding another place to play since this one is on the market. She stunned me when she ask if I had thought of buying it.

I did think about it ,there is no way I would want this biz. The owner said there is no money in it. He does own it all free and clear so he is not too worried about the bottom line. I think it is open just as a place for him and his friends to spend time.I am retired and do not want to spend 60 hrs a week in a pool hall even loving the game as much as I do. I used to think owning a hall would be great ,but now I see all my retirement plans going down the tubes were I to buy this biz.

No food, no alcohol. That means his only revenue is table time. Given that it’s mostly him and his buddies playing, I’m guessing he’s pretty generous with the table time…

No surprise that he’s not making money.

You’re a smart man to pass…

Yeah we all know what happens when there is no "free water" imagine what paying for time would do to biz.

Do you have a vision as to how to make this a successful pool room? if so, do you have a business plan to back it up?

He loses money: you don’t have to. But you will, unless you fix what he was not doing correctly.

I respect the guy for being honest. There’s $0 in that biz unless you have poker machines or something along those lines.

personally I don’t want to own my hang out. Some guys like that and a break even is cool. I think owning my hangout wouldn’t be for me either. Profitable or not.

Consider an Escort Service or Strip Club and throw a few bar boxes in it.

I think in a year or two I will put a 20 x 20 room up and have my own room.
I've got room for my 9 ft gold crown in a family room type area but if building an addition or extension would definitely opt to spend a little extra for a 1/2 bath and small kitchen area. Essentially, a self contained room that guys don't need to leave when they are over. Makes it much easier to have people over and not have them traipsing through the house.

And this is what anyone who engages in this endeavor will eventually think. If you can afford this type venture/social interaction, just rent space from a local room that NEEDS the money and invite people who you want to be with. Additionally, in todays's world the only time you will be sued is when someone has the opportunity to sue you. Choose carefully!

You are a smart man! A great way to take the fun out of anything is to have to make a living at it. I have made a living playing pool, bills to pay, mouths to feed. Things change the moment that becomes the deal.

Like most of us I believe, I liked nothing better than to get in very tough battle on the tables. Might play eight or ten hours with the decision up in the air until the last minute. Win or lose, on to the next action rrrrrrrrrriiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiijjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[
