Not the Palmer, but wa this a Bushka on EBay?

I thought that as well. But I saw brass joints of his that did. Figured it may have been done that way to eliminate some weight. I dont know. But it sure looks like the pin matches. Whatever it is, I hope it works out for the buyer.

There are a couple other signs that tell me it's not a Balabushka. One, the rings above the wrap, although similar to a Bushka, do not have the nickel on the outsides of that pattern. I am told he always did that for strength at that section, but this one is different. Having said that though, I think there are some examples of Bushkas that don't have the nickel on the outside, but it's rare. Second, the brass tenon in the shaft is unlike any Bushka I've seen. Normally you always see some wood up the side before getting to the brass. Though it could be a replacement shaft. My gut tells me not a Bushka though.

looks very strange to me. :)

I was watching too and figured it for a Verl Horn or early Tascarella if not a slightly oddly setup bushka. It certainly was influenced by the bushka look though as the points were spaced nicely at the A joint, they appeared to be about the right length with the short butt also appearing to be consistent with other GB's I've seen. At any rate it's a nice looking cue and clearly had some age to it, showing in the bumper as well as in the way the finish was worn off the forearm.

Good luck to the new owner. Hopefully it's what you thought it was or better or just a cue you really wanted to own either way :)

Good shooting to you,

Kevin

Having the nickel missing on the outside is something I have seen on quite a few of them. Some with nickel on the outside and some with black phenolic (or it's equivalent).

And of course no wood on the shafts tenon is a give away for the shaft. The thin stainless steel and no wood around the shafts tenon makes for a loose fit, something George would not have liked.

I'm not a Bushka expert by no means, but in the pic that shows the pin, It's a 3/8-10 by counting the exposed threads, it looks like the style of the mcdermott pin. I don't believe he used that type, but if he did, I wouldn't think he would have used a brass insert for it at 3/8-10....I maybe wrong though. Maybe someone changed the pin to a Mcdermott one. Nice cue, but a chunk of change down the drain if it's not a Bushka, IMHO.

Hey Dave,
I would say that is a 5/16x14 thread, just screwed in deeper in the wood. The threads look to close to be 3/8x10 and has the brass pilot. 3/8x10 are commonly flat faced into wood, and much thicker screw.
Best,
Ken

The seller did sell another cue some time ago, it was too old to pull up the auction. I would have liked to see if it was the same uncle story.

the cue exceeded my expectations - thank you Member id duntovzr1 ( Feedback Score Of 155) Dec-24-08 11:26
