Not To Beat A Dead Elephant

I sure hope cue makers aren't blamed for the massacre.

It won't stop unless China makes importation of ivory illegal now.

+1.... That's what needs to happen
Stiffer penalties to those caught poaching
Why there's such a demand for it I don't know, maybe if people would just quit buying it period.

thats VERY true, Camaroon is a disaster anyways, but its small, there are lots of elephants and will be for many many years,

i'm really getting tired of this toipic and the "american media replys" that always follow up on the forth coming threads. that aint meant as a knock, because nobody here apparently has spent any time in the bush as I have or even been to Africa,

According to the WWE and all the tree huggers who dont know shit all promote the unture fact elephants are in some sort of danger(rhino's are) elephants are not, but thats bad for biz for the fund raising biz and drama on the Anipal Planet channel, ever watch a show and NOT see any animal in danger of extinision, its like The Deadliest catch, they seemsed like they were on the brink of death every moment of every episode, its all propaganda.

its like saying all pool players are degenterate gamblers, coke heads or drunks. Its just not true. In camaroon yeah its a shit box country and there like Somolia there are elephant problems, but in SA thats south africa they cull them still cause they breed like mice.....they fail to mention that on TV in America along with 90% of the rest of the truths about elephants and 90% of the other game,:angry:

actually its cool ,leaves more elephants for me to go hunt,

My day isn't complete until I've hit balls with a dead baby elephant. Seriously, what's the big deal about ivory? It doesn't even look cool. It looks like white plastic that's been in a smoky room for a few years. You know what looks cool? Glass, lucite, chrome, brushed steel, brass. Why don't cuemakers throw some modern materials in there (without going Full Cuetec, you never go Full Cuetec)... instead of trying to make the stick look like it was carved entirely in africa?

i cant argue with that, well i can, tradition i suppose. ivory has a miztuque to it-possible like gold. i dont know. I just know i played pool for 30 years and i love ivory, In fact i was worried about the elephants too, until I went to africa after my 10th or so trip and after being around the biz for years now, i'm not worried about the jumbo's, I'm very sad about the rhino's(see my post last week about that)

respectfully

Fatboy,

I'm not rich. Never been to Africa. The only elephant I'll ever see up close is in a zoo. I'm not going to dispute that you've been all over the world and seen a lot. But I really REALLY would like to know where you come up with your research about elephants. I mean, just show me something...anything....besides "you've been to Africa and you know there's a lot of elephants." I agree that the WWF (not WWE...they're fake wrestlers) plays things up for the media, but they're not the only ones talking. I just can't buy that every conservation organization is full of shit and that it's unture (or untrue) that elephants aren't in danger.

And yes....I agree that rhinos are in danger. They should not be poached either.

Mike - thinks Deadliest Catch is dramatized but still a dangerous job

that used to be fun, we took cans of white gas and carb cleaner and shot them with the 50 BMG's and would blow up what ever was out in the desert-once a boat, a few abandoned cars, refrigerators, even a chain saw once LOL they cleared that junk pile up, i havent been out in a few years.

what the hell this has to do with elephants is beyond me, Oh yeah one year we got one of those singing santa Clauses from walMart and blew it up, that one is on video somewhere, we did all this before cel phones became video cameras.

I miss going to the deseert and blowing things up, as far as "smoking" a elephant thats a term like "Warping a ball" in pool, so if you think you are going to take a PM or REP message from 5 years ago and use it against me you better get a little more than that, (censored for AZB members) just use your imagination here.......

Exactly. I bet less than .1% of this ivory would make it here for cues.

JV

most of it guts burned up tonnes at a time, thats another story. and Chinese get what aint burned when certain govts auction it off, funny thing is the auctions are a gaff and there is often one bidder-therefore its a sale under the pretense of a auction.

its rich morons who you go to work for everyday, weather you like it or not.....hahahahahah

I work for myself.

I'm not sure I understand the purpose of the comment anyway. Obviously some harbor resentment for wealth and success. But what has that to do with who they might work for?

As for the ivory issue, certainly you have valuable experience and observations to contribute, but it is equally certain that you are far from the ultimate authority on the matter, yet for some reason you seem to present yourself as just that.

As with most such divisive issues like ivory, the truth most likely lays somewhere in the middle. It is not a "right versus left" issue I think...not "conservative versus liberal". Seeing that way automatically clouds one's judgement on the issue IMHO. It is a truth issue...and getting at the truth requires an open mind....particularly one unclouded with political rhetoric.

the indusrty and CITIES work closely together doing game density counts in most countries (unless there is a war-congo etc) > the Sarfari club interantional and CITIES and Parks dept's of the various safari countries where hunting is active and poaching too share notes and the quotas are established every year and they are adheared to by safari operators 90% of the time, there some with bad ethics.

What ppl fail to realize is Safari is the biggest Forex(thats $$$ incase you didnt know) source for some sub Saharan countries . they dont cut down the tree to get the top apple. so they damn sure make sure that there will be game for the next 5,10,20,??? years. Thats why quotas are changed every year, every tusk I have has a serial # on it weight where it was harvested and year. thats CITIES enforcing the quotas, the countries get big $$ for permits to shoot bull Jumbos, less for cows and $0 for PAC problem animal control jumbos.

there are lots of eyes on the crop(for lack of a better word) of game, nobody wants there to a shortage, I know people who been in the biz(hunting and photo safari for over 50 years), I damn near got in the biz nad am considering it again. its heavily regulated because they want to be sure they can hunt again next year its a industry, just like a bar, they toss the customers out when the state says to, or in Nv they dont as boozeis 24 hrous, in Ca its 2am, and bar owners toss everyone then so they can open again tomaro, same thing in the safari INDUSTRY,

if you want to know more about game counts, quotas, and REAL information not american TV propanganda. Use the google CITIES, SCI, and other sites will give you lots of information, if you really give a shit do what I do and go to the SCI convention and go to the workshops about quotas, anti poaching efforet and see how they are funded(did ya know that?)

im really sick of this
