Notice The Top Pros Jumping Less?

Your wasting your time. He not at all interested in logic and formal debate.

He hates jumping, apparently can not fathom how its even possible to excute competently in the face of millions of documented undeniable examples and is obviously full of heatred for those who have added that skill set to thier list of competitive abilities.

I'm actually amazed he has completely sold out on his values as a person and started playing the game with a cue and chalk instead of a wooden mace as the game was INTENDED to be played. More interesting is how people pick and choose the point of development of the game that suit THEMSELVES and then turn to hatred of others who choose a different point along that SAME line development. All of us sudden the point in time where THEY decided to pick up a cue is now THEE point in which the standard is set in stone for the rest of the forseable future.

I guess we're all lucky we made it out of the caves before these guys were born. ;)

Not trying to pee in anyone's wheaties but in my experience the people who hate jump cues or jumping are the ones who haven't bothered to take the time to learn how. It's actually pretty easy to aim. Control takes longer to learn. I think the majority of younger players find jumping FUN (I do!) and if that helps spur some interest back into pool then I think it's a good thing!

Jumping or Kicking

I would say I kick better than I jump, so when I size up a shot, I determine if I can hit it with a kick and what kind of leave I would get vs Jumping and planning on a leave if I miss it.

Lots of times with jumping you can sell out if you miss it, so I have a tendency to kick it first, depends on the shot though.

I learned to jump because I was tired of getting beat by players that could jump. I think we have to keep up with the times, and all aspects of the game to remain competitive. Learning to play good safeties is another area of discussion. Back in the day, it was called N****r Pool, today it is called
Smart Pool. The times, they are a changing ...

Snapshot - interesting comment about the attitudes towards safety play. I mean I know it's true but I never really encountered that problem. I came up on straight pool so naturally safety play was an integral and accepted tool. And I never really played pool in bars but always pool halls on the big track where again, safety play wasn't looked down on. Of course the main games were always straight pool and 9 Ball. We played very little 8 Ball. I guess where safeties got associated with sissy pool was more in the bars on the coin ops playing 8 Ball.

Of course, all this was way before jump cues.

I know what your talking about. Years ago when going in a strange bar to hustle you better find out their rules before you played anyone for money. I got real good about 2-way shots quick and how to act lucky when I made a tough shot or bank. Hustling in strange bars years ago you didn't have to worry as much about getting paid as you did getting killed. Some of those bucket of blood joints would get your heart pumping just walking in the front door. Man I miss those days. Johnnyt

jumping has pretty much taken itself out of the game...

a safe used to be... put a ball in the way...

then Earl went airborn.. then soon after EVERYONE went airborn

now safe is freeze him to a ball so he cant jump.. anything less is failure

so the ability to jump has erased the opportunity to jump..you need a roll on a bad safety to get left a jump shot now

it's metagaming really... it just takes time for the ramifications to settle out..

Imagine a race to 21 match where every shot had to be a jump shot. I'm guessing most normal pool players would turn it off after the first rack. That's what's wrong with jump shots.

Sure, most non-pool players might watch the whole thing or most of it but you could say the same thing about a televised circus elephant act. Most people might watch the whole thing or most of it but if you think that means they're going to go out and buy an elephant you're really deluding yourself.:lmao:

I can see how it can be fun to jump a ball and all, but it is way more difficult to lag into a portion of a ball. It's the easy jumps that gets you out of a bunch of trouble, like the one Busty pulled on Efren years ago at the WPC and ran out the set that makes it hard to accept at the pro level.

Future? Welcome to the past Rumpelstiltskin. ;) Jump cues have been around like 20-25 years. Did you just get the memo?

We have flat TVs now, electric cars and even phones that don't even need a cord. Crazy huh?

Becareful out there, things move pretty fast here in the future.

:)

Fixed it for ya. ;)

Your argument is that the cue ball hitting the floor is an unparalleled advance for pool and your argument isn't going to be won by rewriting the words of others. That only displays the destitution of your grievously misguided opinion. A mental miscue, so to speak.

Also, just for your thoroughly modernized information, jump shots were referred to in pool literature 140 years ago.
