Now that the Predator Canadian Event is over...what do you think?

I was happy for the winner, but i was also quite disappointed in Allison's play. I remember her playing much better

I credit the lack of players to the fact that Canada is tough to deal with if you catch covid up there. I wouldn't have gone there on an
airline that was mask optional for anyone's money. Covid regulations and covid itself is going to be a problem for anything done in the
public for a long time.
6 days stay at home request if double vac'd, from the time of positive test or first signs of symptoms. Not enforced unless declared, and purely on the honour system.

Plus you have to be vaccinated just to go there so that could have also been part of the lack of participation.

I like that this tour is trying different things, like the shootout. Maybe a lot of people in the States don't like it but what is the most popular sport in the world? Soccer/Football. Shootouts are a norm there. Maybe this is a strategy to try and grow pool globally. Either way, it is great that there are more events people can play in.

Actually, countless football (soccer) fans detest penalty kick shootouts, but it's not accurate to say that penalty kick shootouts are common. At the World Cup, if a match is tied after 90 minutes, they play an extra fifteen-minute period and then play another fifteen-minute period, and only if it's still tied after the tiebreaking periods do they go to penalty kicks. In other words, the tiebreaker is not penalty kicks but thirty minutes of good old-fashioned football. Penalty kicks is merely the last resort for the occasion when the tiebreaking system fails to produce a winner in a knockout stage match.

In round robin play (the first 48 matches of the World Cup), if a match is still tied after the tiebreaking periods, it is recorded as a draw. In the knockout stage (the final 15 matches of the World Cup), there would be a penalty kick shootout. Perhaps you get about three of them in a typical World Cup out of the 63 world cup matches played, meaning that less than 5% of the matches played go to penalty kicks. If shootouts were that rare in ten-ball, I might be OK with it. The problem is that something like 40% of the matches go to the shootout in ten-ball, so there's nothing special about it, as in 63 ten-ball matches, you could expect 25 shootouts. When there are that many of them, it gets old fast.

There's really no similarity at all between ten-ball, which, with great regularly, decides matches in a way that fails to test the complete set of skills of the players and World Cup football, in which such a practice is rare indeed.

Allison is 54 now…,I think she played well.
Same here.

Few realize how few ladies in pro pool history remained at the top competitive level into their fifties. The only five I can think of are 1) Allison Fisher (Fargo 744) who is currently 2nd best of the active players in the world based on Fargo, 2) Jennifer Barretta (Fargo 681) who is currently 13th best of the active players in the world based on Fargo, 3) Dorothy Wise, who was still winning major straight pool titles into her fifties, 4) Belinda Bearden Calhoun, who was still a very tough out when she was fifty, and 5) Loree Jon (Fargo 646) still hits them pretty sporty.

If Allison's play was disappointing on any level, it is only because expectations ran high after she beat and eliminated Kelly Fisher in the knockout stage.

Allison is truly a timeless wonder to be admired.

I don't watch much pool anymore, live stream or YouTube. If there were more American players that were competitive, I MIGHT watch more.

There are several European players I would rather sit in a dentist's chair and have a root canal done before I'd watch play. I also get tired of all the British commentators, not just in pool but many other sports as well.

There......I said it!

You make a valid point.

The game has evolved to what it is now and the Predator format of two races to 4 and shootout for ties
is something different to try and break that mold where people don't find pool entertaining.

I think the question is: "How far should we go in order to make Pool entertaining?" Should we make further adjustments?

Yes, but I do not know what the solution is. Obviously, nobody else does either. Pool is just mostly boring to watch to the casual observer.

The only thing I dislike is the format.
In my opinion (which is worth about $0.02) I'd rather a 2 set race to 5, with a single rack tie breaker (in place of the shout out) with lag for break.

Or....
1 set, race to 7 with winner break gets the break.
Last 16 race to 9 with winners break.
Finals race to 11 with winners break.

I've never seen this before. Not sure there's ever been a safety battle go this long in Pool.

It was 7:45 minutes before the first ball was made (accidentally) and 8.50 minutes before the first
intentional pot. After that the rack went pretty quickly.

Do something about the rack, I watched Ko and Ariana’s match wing ball down and one ball few inches from top right corner pocket. I have no idea how to fix it.

This is what they did with the rack at the Eurotour this year.

From what I am understanding the players voted on this change to try and prevent exactly what you're referring to.
Its not a bad thing, but the folks that wanted to see one player run large packs of games are a little disappointed.
I have to wonder about that mindset a little. Do they want the other player to never get a chance at the table? Shouldn't
we as fans expect to watch excellent safety play or do we need constant stimulation? There are lots of questions here
and no clear answers except that things appear to be changing.

Get rid of the damned spot shot crap.
Great players reduced to this after world class competition in their disciplines is truly disappointing.

Apparently, the shootouts aren't popular here in the States. I have to wonder if there are fans here to respond when or if it changes.
I guess we will have to wait and see what happens.

Howdy All;

Watch a few. Hated the shoot out. Sets to 5, tie-breaker should be a third set. OR just 1 set to 7
then move on or go home after 2 matches. Is that to simple?

A straight race and first one to the number whatever it is, makes a lot of sense. I would say 8 would
be just fine. The person who gets there has won more games. End of story.
