Not all old people are close minded
No but they often get sucked into believing false information because that's what they want to believe its true without really using common sense to separate fact from fiction

jump/bank the 13 obviously
Not even a Hall of Famer would've seen that.

What do you do here John?
I think one issue in this debate is that the opposition goes to the extreme and thinks that those who say deep practice produces better players mean that anyone who puts in Shane-like time should be as good or better than Shane. <--Finally, a minor concession !
No one is saying that. Individual people don't all have their own individual psychology and issues..<--That is exactly what you are inferring !
What the studies show <--Once again..WHAT STUDIES ??? is that nearly everyone can improve GREATLY... with whatever it is they are wanting to learn IF they practice it with deep focus. So while everyone might have a ceiling most are nowhere close to it in my opinion.<--Once again, YOU Yourself, are a perfect example, of why this is NOT true !
To me average players have a lot of room for improvement and no one should be arguing that it's impossible for an average player to reach world beater prowess IF the average player were able and willing to put in world beater levels of deep practice. <--Do you EVER re-read the outlandish claims you are making, before you push the submit button ?
I know your'e older than dirt but do you always have to be so condescending when you post? Seriously.Since you will not stop quoting me, I shall have to intercede, to point out the mis-guided information you are disseminating !..I do this only as a public service, lest some poor uninformed beginner, actually thinks you make some semblance of common sense !..Even a newbie like Rhea, is starting to see through your wild assumptions !
Stan Shufert, and several other good instructor's, are nice, well intentioned guy's, with no ulterior motive !..But, please...YOU yourself, are a perfect example of how getting an average player, (who has been playing all his life) to suddenly perform like a top player, will NEVER, ever be feasible !..You do get an 'A' for perserverance John, but a 'D' is the best you will ever get for results !
I don't know - this is what I left him. I won the session though. I probably would have stuck the cue ball to the pack.

How many hours are they playing everyday?
What do they do when they play?
Do they truly have the ambition to improve, or are they content with their current level?
Have they have had any coaching?
Your first name is incredibly fitting
