Now Would Be The Time to go co-ed

Now would be the time for a dozen or so top women pros and three or four-dozen top male pros to get together and organize a tour. This would be an opportune time for a leader or two to step forward. In my opinion pool would go on the fast track with a co-ed (for want of another word) tour. Maybe start it for advertising purposes with a showcase match with a top female pro and a top male pro matching up in a 10-ball or 9-ball race.

Not since Jean Balukas came on the scene 30 years ago has there been such a buzz about the women playing the men. I hope someone in pool and the players themselves don't miss this opportunity. Tournaments with top female and male pros competing against one another is what's needed to give pool the boost it needs IMO.

Before anyone bashes this idea with the women can't beat men for the cheese…we're not taking about that.

Women won't let men play on there tour…we're not talking about that.

Women can't compete with the top 100 pros…they already have and sent many top male to the "B" side or out of the tournament.

Would they dominate on a male/female tour? No, but they would hold their own and make pool a lot more interesting for just about everyone.

Just to name a few who have and could compete are listed below.

Karen Corr
Allison Fisher
Jasmin Ouschan
Gerda H.
Jeanette Lee
Kelly Fisher
Monica Webb
Helena T.
Yu Ram Cha
Ga Youg Kim
X Pan
And there are probably a dozen more. Johnnyt

I agree. First of all, player run tours have historically had many problems.

The ladies have a successful tour.

The men have a history of self-imploding with such ventures.

It would be nice, but probably not realistic.

I think there are more business oriented pros on both sides now. Johnnyt

men and women tour

I agree with Johnny.

There is some excitement in the pool community about the women players competing with the men and while that excitement is present is the opportune time to start a new venture.

While there is a chance that a new tour could divide available sponsorship and prize money, sooner or later one has to emerge as the best and most successful, right?

i also believe it would be a good idea to have a mixed tour, but i do believe that the men would would have a problem with it, A hurt EGO causes alot of issues sometimes.

I have A lot of respect for the female pros. I think they should be competing with the men. because I'm a strong B and try to play in as many joss events that I can witch is not many but If I belong there trying to play better and learn more than so does any women. you only get better by playing better players ,its all part of competition. One thing to think about is do the women what to play on a knew co-ed tour? all the female pros I talk to always tell me how much they love the WPBA.

Most of the young pros have come out of the cave or were never in it to start with. I believe both sides would be interested in doing this is they could see that their would be money in it for them. Johnnyt

I don't think the Women need the Men to remain sucessful....randyg

Economics causes the women to move their stops each year. (imo) Places like Durham would like to have the women back for a tournament but the women want too much for that to happen.

I love the women pro's, and they have established a winning track record, but...
I think the "formulaic" nature of the product they've established with/thru ESPN has begun to wear that track pretty thin. 9-Ball only, race to seven, same look, same feel, yada, yada, yada. It's held up for TV time because it's what ESPN can sell to a very small, reliable per capita - and they can sell it at 3am, or at 2pm against higher visibility entities. I'm happy for all they've done, and all they have. But I think what we all ache for is the opportunity to see talent do what talent is capable of, unfettered by issues that don't impact the execution of the game/sport itself. Gender issues, dumbing down & speeding up for the uneducated masses, being glued to rotation games, etc.

Edited to note...
This is my 1000th post. I couldn't be more happy than to use it promoting an idea so richly deserving. I appreciate the AZ forum, all (well, most of) the people on it, and what we as a group represent in efforts to promote what we care for.

Tour

I think it would good for both the women and the men pros ..... in the long run, but would encounter some speed bumps along the way.

BTW, How many women players, amateurs and pros alike, are going to play at Galveston?

From a fan's view Johnnyt's concept of a mixed tour is great.

Not turning this into a woman player bashing but some opinions remain.

I don't see it happening because: Why would the women who have a successful tour take a chance on their best players leaving for a mixed tour? They (best female players) would need a financial incentive to change and where does that leave the lesser pros?

If their was only one tour many woman pros would be out of luck the number of women who could succeed on a mixed tour are few and far between (sorry that's just the facts has nothing to do with women but overall numbers of players). I know there are currently more tours but for the money to ever get there you would need one tour.

The women who could make it would be giving up the tour (WPBA) they dominate to possibly losing money.

I'm surprised I haven't seen any threads bashing Shawn Putnam about women playing at Turning Stone was a bad idea.
