People, people, there is a new master cue maker in the shadows but not for long.

Steve Klapp, who soon will be posting here under the name NUCUES, has sold me. I got a call from Adam (The Sleeve) Behnke. Adam was raving about how well his new Steve Klapp cue hit balls. Adam said all his brothers, Ryan, Levi and Chad were going to start playing with Steve's cues too. Adam was so "adamant" about how great these cues played that I called Steve and ordered one myself.

These are just a few of the styles of cues, Steve, creates. I will be back to let you know how well I love it. Steve can be reached at 309-509-2020.

Nice change up to see some clean solid wooden ringwork. Nice cues. Please post some contact info to get this man some more exposure, if you can.

Thanks.

are you thinking of selling any of them, and if so, for what price ?

OK, so go ahead and shoot me, Gedukas, I forgot to post Steve's info. Sorry. The 4 point cues shown vary in price from $350 to $650. The starting price for a 6 point cue is $800.

The cue I ordered from Steve is the ebony with green wrap which retails for $600.

Steve Klapp can be reached here as soon as Mike allows him to be able to post or his direct phone number is 309-509-2020.

The work looks good from the pics, although I'll level some constructive criticism. Sorry, but the American cuemaker scene is flooded with very nice cues, so even the smallest issues become magnified. The design of the cues are different and visually appealing, although some of the wood pairings are a little funky. I'd still prefer that the points are made of the same wood as the mid part of the butt, after the post-handle ringwork that is. It gives the illusion that the cue is a full splice, even though it isn't. For points with veneers, don't ask me why, but I'd prefer 4 to 3. I don't think the degree of difficulty is any greater, but it "appears" to be so. In today's game, any cue I did I'd do with a plain black 3/8" ring at the joint so that folks can order their own aftermarket shafts. It may be the picture, but it looks like the seam on the leather wrap is quite prominant. Might need to tighten that up in the future. Finally, are these cored or traditional short spliced construction ?

I wish you the best on your endevors and I'm sure we'll talk at some point.

As far as the wrap that was his first leather wrap cue he has already changed that up good eyes though i must say the line was perfect and that color of leather is hard to hide that. your telling me you dont see the seems on cues i have owned 3 cues with black leather all can be seen but cue makers dealing with black can hide it a little better the make leather touch up just like wood and paint touch up. Like a stated before he is getting better with every cue and he has had alot of good shooters test it and use it cosmetic wise it takes time but the craftsmanship is there.

Mike Webb does my wrap work and as far as I'm concerned, he's the best in the business. So call me spoiled. On the other hand, I have Dave Bollman's first ebony cue and believe me, its nowhere close to as good cosmetically as these. What I've come to know is that you can know what to do with a lathe and make a cue, but the good ones seem to know what the wood is doing and that comes through in the hit of the cue.

Thanks a lot. And be careful in the shop!

btw-always nice to use a harder wood in the nose of the cue. For some reason, such cues play better. Today's super shafts do a lot for any cue, but I can still tell the difference between a good butt and a bad one.
