I thought this shaft was not hollow at the end, I have just received one, broken by the courier company, and I can see it is hollow.

Call or PM Royce Bunnell at OB Cues. He is the authority on the OB shaft.

I think his AZB username is RBC....but I could be wrong.

I was under the impression that the last 4 inches were foam-filled...but then, I am not overly concerned with the construction of my equipment.

All OB shafts are hollowed out at the tip end.

The OB-1 and OB-2 are drilled the entire length of the shaft with foam in the front and silicone rubber in the rest of the shaft.

The OB Classic and OB Pro are only drilled out in the front of the shaft and filled with foam, the rest of the shaft they are solid wood.

Hope this helps. Sorry to hear that your shaft arrived broken. Did you contact who you bought it from to get this taken care of yet? Let me know if I can help.

Why wouldn't you think that's it's not hollow at the end?

All of the OB shafts are engineered with low squirt technology. The OB 1 and and OB 2 have extra engineering for softening/dampening that the the OB Classic and Pro do not have. Maybe this is what you're thinking.

Good information....and thank you for explaining it!!!

Thanks for your answer.
I called the courier company, they will send a judge (I don't really know the english term) to my home. The OB plastic container is totally bent and the courier box is broken and resealed, so it is very clear what happened...

I readed (maybe worng) it here in the forum. Well, if I can keep the shaft when the courier company returns my money I could examine better how is it built :)

I find it strange about the Classic shaft. You can look through countless
threads and this is the first I've ever heard this. I've always read the the Classics
were solid shafts through and through?

I found out they are hollow because I have 2 of them and I tried to get new tips installed. The guy popped off the tip and then said he could not retip it. He popped off the tip and the pad and now i have a shaft with no tip and a chunk of the foam gone from the end .... I started to make him make it right but said screw it, he would probably just mess it up even more.

Sadly, he is one of the few cue repairmen in my area, so I just put it back in the case until I decide how and where I wanna get it fixed...

Confusion, I guess. And people read what they want. Read Shane's post. It's pretty clear and shows why people would be confused at the "solid through" idea.

Sadly, if he doesn't know that OB shafts with a wood ferrule use a carbon pad before the tip, that should be the last time you need to go over to his place.

He could have removed the tip from the pad and reused it just the same if he was careful. Pretty lazy, unknowing, or both on his part.

As for having a piece of the foam come away with the pad, I believe that OB cues have explicit instruction on their web site for that as well as any other procedures done on one of their shafts.

Off hand, I can't remember how to fix or replace a piece of the foam but I think its on the site if you look for it.

Thanks. I will likely ship it to someone who knows how to repair them. Its an extra shaft so Im in no hurry really.

i was literally about to say exactly the same thing

Lol
I replied to the wrong thread :)
Broken in half shaft is most likely non repairable :D

My new OB classic has arrived to me this morning, I have been playing with it 4 hours. It feels very well and confident, but I was expecting it even stiffer, like a mezz wd700, I don't see a lot of difference in comparison with my old OB1. Squirt is clearly higher than the OB1, and it is very noticeable if you apply inside english. I can apply full inside with my OB1 with no aim correction, but with the OB classic I need a lot of correction. In a shot where I have to apply no correction with an OB1 (or even aim thinner because of throw!), with the classic I have to aim to the other side of the object ball, that is a lot, another world. Maybe I need some adaptation time, but in terms of LD I am a little dissapointed.

Apart from that, I don't see any foam in the hollow part of the broken OB classic, just wood. BTW here is where I readed OB classic is not hollow in any part, TATE says is very clearly. http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=176277

Hmm... that's a very interesting comparison between the OB-1 and the OB Classic. I wonder if the same situation exists between the OB-2 and the OB Pro? (I ask, because I tried the OB-1 once, and didn't like the soft hit; which to me, lacked responsiveness or resonance -- but then again, I was raised on plain maple shafts, so I prefer a more crisp hit. I also prefer a smaller tip, and thus the OB Pro was my choice.)

Will have to try an OB-2 some day,

I have an OB1 and a Classic. I think the Classic is significantly firmer than the OB1...and I've got soft tips on both (UltraSkin Soft on the OB1 and Kamui SS on the Classic). For my style of playing the Classic has a very minor amount more deflection.

You're still a little confused.

He said "hollow core." The OB1 and OB2 have a hollow core all the way through the shaft that is filled for dampening. The Classic and Pro are solid all the way through

But the Classic and Pro still have the low squirt hole in the front. That's a different animal versus "hollow core."

Freddie <~~~ all the way through
