I actually played that shot in the last Jacoby tour tournament... only it was the nine ball and it was in the middle of the rail instead of dangling in the pocket. Everybody went wild when I made it but I was still pretty mad at myself for almost scratching after making the eight.
 
i think your second or third stroke was in time with the song in the background. nice shot.

I've had this (short rail) shot come up more than once during league.

I've had the long rail shot come up once during league.


........on 9' tables w/tight pockets.
 
Nice. I remember a guy showing me how to do that about 20 years ago, but somewhere along the line I forgot what english you're supposed to use.
the second clip is pretty cool as well. What are you aiming at there?
 
I've used it on (very) rare occasion too. It's remarkably easy to pull off. Too much top spin and the CB will arc away from the rail, so be wary of that. Shooting a hanger is pretty easy, a ball a foot or so away from the pocket is not.

The one I made was pretty close to the pocket, it was a sell-out if I missed. I didn't leave myself there....my opponent did!

The second one is a jump shot into the back of the pocket...but is set up like an inevitiable scratch shot.

If you guys like these shots, you def need to check out the 350 shots book by Byrne...its filled with interesting shots like these

Edit: oh yeah, I made this shot yesterday in a game...of course I was only intending to hit the 1 directly instead of coming back off the rail

In a tournament I'd probably do this...

*assuming no 3-foul rule, which is how most tournaments around here are played.

Kim Davenport played more point shots than any other player I have ever seen, like the one in the link, off the side tit back into the corner, etc. and he was good at them, real good.

Here's one shot (and made) in a game between Scott Frost and Mitch Ellerman. Mitch made the shot on the 3 ball like he had a road map. It's on the video link at about 21:38. At the end of the video, Mitch does it again just to prove that it wasn't a fluke. Anybody have any idea what kind of English he put on the ball? I've tried the shot several different ways with no luck...

-Hit the first match (Frost vs. Ellerman 10 ball) and fast forward to 21:38. Some good pool here!
 
Yes, I agree low left is def the way to go, but on most side pocket point shots, WHERE you hit is much more important than how you hit. That shot is a VERY practical shot for an escape (making the ball is pretty sweet though:) )


Oh and one more thing: I wouldn't suggest using any follow on the ball. In my experience, there is a high chance of getting an unwanted hop.
