I like the way they have 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place monies. That truly makes it worthwhile for the player to cover expenses and have a little jingle in their pockets.

The recent World 8-Ball Championship had a strange breakdown percentage from 1st to 2nd place.

This kind of percentage for the Desert tournament makes much more sense to me. I am sure the players really like this as well.

I bet Johnny likes it the most :) It was truly a world class field. I must say that everybody except for Gabe Owen look bigger on TV :) It was surreal walking into Kolby's and seeing all of these players. They were all very approachable.

I know what you mean. TV makes people look differently.

I remember seeing Karen Corr for the first time and thinking how petite she is in person. On TV, she seemed very tall, but in person, she is not as tall as she looked on TV. :p

Johnny Archer is much taller in person, though, than he looks on TV to my eye. Buddy Hall is another tall one.

Johnny did like it the most for sure. I have the BIG check from last night on my pool table at home, I think I will get him to sign it or am I just being goofy? Who cares i had such a blast this past week.

I would have him sign it. If you didn't then you would be acting goofy! or goofier than normal :D:D:D:D

I think you are right, I am just not sure what the hell i am going to do with it and where to put it. The Wife loved Johnny but if I try mounting that on the wall she will kick my butt.

What a great weekend of pool...thanks to all who made it possible! There was always a great game to watch. As usual, the top pros were phenomenal. I was also really impressed by several of the players that you don't see a lot of on TV, as well. Oscar Dominguez was on fire! Mitch Ellerman is always an amazing young gun to watch. Hill Billy was having a great tourney. I think he basically just wore his opponents down, as all his games ran really long no matter who he was playing.

It was also a pleasure watching Jimmy M. and Prince (Dennis) taking turns sharking Earl! I don't know how you guys could do that to Earl telepathically like you did. I also know you guys had to be mystically responsible for that lady that was sitting in the bleachers opening a bag of chips that caused Earl's loss to Tony, too ;)!

It was a pleasure meeting Jay, and he did a great job of refereeing and shutting the old drunk guy up that kept hollering "strychnine" at Earl and trying to bet everyone around him on every single shot in the match (probably an Orender/Mendoza plant, as well!).

Thanks to Chuck, Jim, Bull, Sara, and all the rest of the crew that helped everything run smoothly. Also a shout out to Garth and Jude for their color commentary and for buying me a drink!

Let's do this again real soon!

Steve
"Strychnine!" He was definately rooting for Earl. What a character he was. Kinda funny to listen to at times. I overheard him tell one young guy in the room, "if i hit you, i may not knock you down-but you're gonna look pretty funny standing there". That was classic. Congrats to Johnny for a great tourney. I watched a few of his matches and he just played flawless pool, as did Mika.

I have some space that I could store it on for you. Just let me know :) After all - I did save your seat for you all day Thursday. :)

I did appreciate that but I didn't see much of you the rest of the time I had to ask the old Charlie Chaplin guy to save it a couple of times then realized that he wanted to tell me jokes everytime I sat down. He was pissed of on the third day. He went around doing all the jokes and tricks, dressed up like Chaplin and then went to try and get paid by Kolby's for entertaining the crowd. They had no idea who he was or had any agreement. I guess it's like if I came by your house of my own free will and mowed your lawn then came to the door and said thats $20.00. A good old guy I guess is small doses :) I know like me before you say it.

I had to leave around 6 on Thursday to go pick up my puppy. So after I got her I wasn't able to make it back that much.

I heard that was Charlie's (the imposter) MO. Entertain the crowd and then ask for tips and stuff like that. He was more annoying than entertaining. imo.

I agree, hey check out my thread on Areas starved of pool. I need some input.

I saw a little of what he was doing out of the corner of my eye, but I had several people tell me about the dumb ass gestures he was making when I was on "his side" of the table. I don't really take it personally because I know that, if it wasn't me on the table next to him, it would have been someone else, and he would have been doing that crap to them instead. I didn't even know that he blamed a missed 8-ball on me racking the balls on the next table until a few people who were in the bleachers told me afterward. I saw him saying something and gesturing but, by that point, I was trying not to pay attention.

It was a great tournament but, unfortunately, the outcome was decided by an unwitting audience member because, had she not been eating in the bleachers, Earl would have undoubtedly won it all. Although, I confess that Dennis might have had something to do with planting her there. :)

Hey Jimmy I wasn't in the room when the infamous candy wrapper was rattled but I obviously heard about it everytime I went out to smoke. Let me ask a stupid question here. We all know that people are going to eat and drink etc in the bleachers, but was it really even close to being as bad as I heard? The several times I heard about it it was like really bad and almost purposely done. What do you think? I mean did you even hear it at all?

I was just making an attempt at humor. Honestly, I didn't see it. I never made it back to Kolby's after I was eliminated. I had planned on going back but I got hit with the stomach flu that's been going around. :(

I am just curious, but is this the guy who was dressed like Charlie Chaplin?

Yep - that looks just like him.

They call him "Pots and Pans," but his real name is Bernard Rogoff. He used to be a man of action back in Mosconi's era. His quick wit, sense of humor, and remarkable memory are incredible.

He got his name from peddling, as you might have guessed, pots and pans when he was on the road. He'd buy 'em for 20 bucks and then post 'em up for table stakes stating they were worth 60 bucks. :D

He is harmless and on a fixed income. No doubt, he was trying to hustle up some spending monies. :p
