Official Super Billiards Expo Thread

Is the empanadas sales lady there from Edison last year? They were awesome.

Was there today and will back sat afternoon into the night. Haven't been to the expo in about 7 or 8 years. Seems like there are a lot less booths than years ago. It was also so spaced out, it felt empty but will probably be a good thing when it gets busy over the weekend.

Saw a ton of people from years ago and that was cool.

Didn't eat the food but it's very overpriced and heard it wasn't great. Did get 2 bottles of powerade and they were 3.50 each and soda and water was like 2.50 each as well. Recommend that you find vending machines for that stuff if you can. They are also selling beer at the food stands for those interested.

I wish we had these kinds of things in California.

It would be an excellent place to host it and we can show off the West coast cue builders.

only thing i got was "brackets coming soon".

I thought I saw a partial bracket posted somewhere on the forum.

They have the BCAPL in Vega$ each year --- it is the same thing and a better venue.

Definitely not enough tables in the Midnight room. And not smoke free there if that matters to you. First time seeing Scooter play and act. Not too impressive.
The Pro 10-ball Action was great tonight!
Earl's trick shot show was cool too!
BTW had my AZB sticker on. Didn't see any others. Let's represent Sat. and Sun.!!

Majorly disappointed this year with my annual Friday visit.

I take off work and bring a couple friends to see Pro 10 ball. Unfortunately, first 4 rounds were held on THURSDAY this year, instead of Fri as in years past. Instead, One Pocket was in the Pro Arena until after 5p. WTF? I'd rather watch paint dry. Would have been nice to know that the 10 ball wasn't going on until later, and I'd have stayed at work.

Perhaps SBX is getting a little long in the tooth. As others have pointed out, the steady decline of vendors continues from years past. Though, Mueller's was back. And Drawman and others continue to impress with their collectibles and good conversation.

Yeah 1P should have a separate room. And with all the talk on AZB about how Pros should dress / present themselves...... 10 ball was fine.
Some of the 1P players look like real slobs.
Also, maybe they started on Thurs. so the Women's tournament could play some more rounds today. (even though all the top players are over seas).
The Men's 10 ball starts a lot later today. 7:30 PM!

I had the same experience. I took off from work and went down for the day. The schedule said there would be pro 10 ball at 1 pm and 6 pm...they ended up having the pro 10 ball rounds at 6 and 9 pm because 1 pocket was at 1 and 4.

I know the schedule said times subject to change, but a five hour difference is a little wild.

Also, the pro events should be the center of attention-the pinnacle of what any player should aspire to compete at. To not have an arena, or streaming table with lights and stands all around was a misstep. I spoke with upstate Al and he said he worked out a deal to stream next year, but this year it wasn't worked out in time.

Professional pool should be the epicenter of this tournament, especially with the mosconi cup points, but unfortunately, it felt like an afterthought.

Maybe I'm just spoiled by Mike Zuglan and his supremely run Turning Stone events, the stream and live table updates on the site....even when I am in the stands, I'm following on line.

EXCELLENT NEWS!!!!
One thing my wife and I always talk about while there was the announcing / ref in years past.
I think the guys name was Scott? (Did the US open this year so I know he is still kicking)
He would announce the matches PLUS tell you stats like HOF member, nickname etc.
If someone got eliminated he would say that and get a round of applause.
Also, FOR CHRIST SAKES if a match goes hill hill let the crowd know!!!!
And btw the speaker should be at the CENTER of the arena not at one end like this year.
I like the crowd to be a "little" more lively and he definitely used to help do that.
Did Scott and Alan have a falling out?

I think you are thinking of Scott "The Shot" Smith, who was the ref./TD in many events for many years. He left the scene for a few years, then returned in 2014 as the Master of Ceremonies at the U.S. Open (with Jay Helfert as the TD).

But I don't recall Scott at the SBE, at least not in recent years (although I don't know who it was in 2014). The TD in 2013 was Doug Ennis. In 2012 it was Mike Renshaw. In 2011 and some years before that it was Frank Del Pizzo. Frank was the one who expelled Earl Strickland in 2011.

Yeah Scott was there some years. Perm / fro guy (same as this year) I think was the one who expelled Earl.
Grey haired slicked back guy was the main one for the Women for a few years.
Gotta hype it up!!

I just have to say that not only does it suck that the pro event is not streamed, it is also the worst updated event ever.
