ok, I probably shouldn't, but...

How were you able to edit the title of this post?

the title showing on the wanted/4 sale section can't be...I changed the "title" in the first post by using the GO ADVANCED feature.

seriously...

are you guys seriously going to give the guy static b/c he let everyone know there's an ebay auction going on right now...a PUBLIC ebay auction? how many of you even knew the auction for the cue and case were there before he mentioned it? probably not many of you, so you probably wouldn't have bid on it, and him letting everyone know about it doesn't do you any harm. And if you're just that determined to get a Frey sneaky, why don't you start a WTB thread here, get some offers, and support one of your fellow AZ'ers. If you're that dead set on finding a smokin' deal on a cue that no one knows about, get up off your computer chairs and start hitting up pawn shops in your area, otherwise don't give the guy problems because he let everyone in on a big top secret public auction

This topic has come up several times here on AZ... and I've always thought it was bad form. As appreciative as some may be for getting "turned onto a deal" IMO it is more likely to drive the price up on an auction (whether the whisleblower has a stake in it or not) so what if its a just a Frey sneaky.. would you have alerted us to a Hercek sleeper? a Tascarella? I doubt it. the market price of the cue is to me irrelevant. some of us do scour ebay and craigslist for these kind of sleeper deals. and just so there's no question, I DID see that auction and was watching it closely.... Who knows what will happen now...but a "deal" is probably not part of the conclusion

since I probably couldn't identify a Hercek (NEVER seen one of his cues) or a Tascarella (only a couple of pics, and still couldn't see the difference from one from say a Gilbert Tasc-like cue) if someone hit me over the head with one, I'd say, no; you would definitely be safe from me outing one. As I said, I was looking a cases (searched Instroke), and thought some on here would like to have a shot at what could be a good deal. As for the definition of deal - getting something for under market/street prices is a good deal to me. If someone woulda picked it up for $60 with the case, and resold it here for $300 with no other effort than seeing the auction; I'm sure the guy who bought it for $300 wouldn't mind a shot at the auction for $200 or $250....(cuz at that price it's be not worth buying for most of the flippers). I see that I stepped on some toes, and while I think a buyer would like this info, I know there are some who don't want to see it. But, I did think there would be more folks (a majority) here that would like the cue to HAVE the cue, and that's where I miscalculated it seems.

I can see why people are unhappy with these kinds of threads. A lot of people enjoy scouring through the oodles of auctions on eBay looking for deals. To their delight, they find a sleeper deal and someone "ruins their fun" by advertising it for no good reason on AZ. There's no way it can stay a sleeper deal once it has been advertised. Isn't that obvious?

You offer some backwards rationalizations, including the fact that you think it's better if the cue sells for more. Because presumably nobody should be allowed to buy the cue for a good deal, whether they want to keep it or flip it, in your mind.

The comparison to Target clearing out golf products was weak. If you inform people of a sale, the price doesn't go up for others.

actually with the Target reference you could end up paying more for items (the more people who know about it - the less chance of the product making all the way to the final markdown).

Look, the cue/case will sell regardless...I thought some on this board would like a shot at 'em, so I posted a link. If a dozen on here saw the auction (before I posted), then they might not get as good of a deal as they could have, but now if there are 4 dozen interested (that never knew about the auction) THEY could get a good deal.....sure, not as low of a price that the original dozen could have had it for, but most likely less than the price it woulda been listed for on here in a couple weeks....

because right now they are bidding against each other at HUNDREDS less than the cue would be listed here for; are you kidding??

Don't you get it McNeil, this is larger than one auction. This is larger than even the principle of uncovering sleeper auctions.

This is a response to pathetic, disingenuous smarminess. Attention-seeking douchebaggery concealed as public service.

Fortunately we have people like you to save the world.

You've clearly demonstrated that your thread had no possible positive outcome.

No, you miscalculated just how transparent your motives would appear to everyone on azb. It's not, I'm trying to secure a deal for the average player Bill. It's: Hey everyone look at me I'm so great I found this deal I R AWESOME.

Pathetic.

eta...did I really just waste my 2000th post on this thread? jfc...

holy crap!! this is a billiards forum, I can't believe someone would post about a cue on eBay that others on the forum may be interested in. trying to save the world, no. posting about something I ran across while looking at auctions...yes. big deal.
