OK, OK...I'll say it and take the heat!

To me it makes no difference what he wears really,at least he's not running 7-packs in a loud-ass Ed Hardy or Coogi shirt,or Under Armour 2 sizes too small and girly flip-flops :p. Tommy D.
But....you just said "To me it makes no difference what he wears really".

You contradicted yourself...:)

Yeah, because he's had such a tough time marketing himself. He probably has the best cue endorsement deal out there, along with other sponsors. Anytime he wants to gamble for any amount, all he has to do is make a phone call. These sponsors and backers aren't concerned if he wears a black t-shirt three days in a row (which was for I'm sure, the purposes of comfort during 30+ hours of pool playing.) They are happy that he dominates every event he plays in, and they hope that they are afforded the opportunity for him to represent their product, and/or play hard for their money.

There are plenty of jokers in pro tournaments dressed in "slacks and loafers" and not getting sponsorships. Dude this isn't 1987 when Mike Sigel was dominating the 9 ball tour. This is 2011. Styles and trends have changed. I have an even better suggestion. If "slacks and loafers" are going to give Shane the career boost you think he needs, just go the extra mile and recommend a tuxedo.

Hilarious. The key to successfully marketing yourself is to wear "Polo shirts, dress slacks, and casual loafers." Hey, while we're making fashion critiques. I've noticed that Justin, who does all of the work for TAR wears mostly T-shirts, shorts, and sneakers. Maybe if he wore more Dress slacks, TAR could gain a little more respect and improved market share in the industry. Come on...
I'm thinking you should switch to de-caf?

Do I have to entitle my post with the following "This is only a joke" so people won't get all twisted?

Good one neil, I mean Good Lord, if it helps get him where he is, most shouldn't change for the next 10 years!!
Again, I was REALLY just making a little joke.
Shane is my favorite American player to watch.

Just because he is phenomenal in pool doesn't mean people can't poke a little fun at him about wearing the same clothes three days in a row?

Hopefully his skin is thicker than yours.

I think Inside English was just putting a little swerve on his thread. He got some good responses but don't take it so seriously. He's pulling our chain far more than he's pulling Shane's.

I like the responses, all of them. It just goes to show that everyone has different perspectives and how some of us can take things too seriously.

Shane is his own man and doesn't need anyone defending his right to wear the same clothing or same-looking clothing when he plays. That's one of the things that I like about Shane. He doesn't wear clothes to satisfy the masses and he doesn't try to impress anyone and let's his pool game do the talking.
Sigh...someone gets me...:)

Since I have too do the laundry I sometimes wear the same shirt for 3 days.

Dave Nelson

hahaha!

I play in a smoking pool room, so I can't stomach wearing the same shirt 3 days in a row. Can't say the same about my jeans.

I also don't know if you noticed but some of the biggest churches in America are successful now because they let people come dressed as they are. People don't put on their Sunday best anymore to try and impress the other church members. I think society is becoming more like that.

I go on a camping /hunting trip every year for a few months at the same location, and there are many people from various places that have been showing up like me for years and you will run into some that like church and give the invite to go to Sunday or Wednesday night services at this old country church not far from the camp sites.

I went with this couple and we wore our camouflage hunting outfits, thats all the clothes I had personally that was clean, but upon arriving I noticed several others wearing their hunting outfits also., I could still hear the preacher just fine without my suit on.

Let Shane wear whatever he wants, I like people that are different anyway , adds to the mix of things.

Joey you brought back a memory from jr. highschool days, whenever school let out around 3:00 everyday I would most times run up to the poolroom and maybe shoot a few hours.

Well when I got home my mom would say , David you been at that pool hall I can smell smoke on your clothes, so smells can get on your shirts rather quickly, espicially smoke.

One should wash or change shirts everyday that you wear in public.

I disagree. Just like poker, pool is about great and interesting characteers. Stiffening them up with whatever wardrobe suggestions you're thinking of is certainly not the answer. They aren't attorneys or insurance salesman. They are men of action. Warriors on the green felt. We want them to look cool - and have some character, like they do. Poker is successful because on tv we can see their cards, so we feel like we're IN the game. Pool is just as exciting as poker. When television can figure out a way to make the common man feel like he is IN the pool game, you'll have something. Dress slacks and polo shirts aren't going to change a thing.

Fortunately, the major pool events do require the players to dress up. The upcoming U.S. Open, for example, has the following dress code:
Dress Code:
Nice Slacks, Sweater or nice shirt, no T-Shirts, No tennis shoes, Nice comfortable soft shoes permitted. Look your best head to toe.
Hmmm, I wonder why they want you to look your best from head to toe? ;)

Check out the pictures in the articles and advertisements in Billiards Digest. You won't find pictures of anyone wearing frumpy t-shirts and tattered blue jeans with holes in them. By the way, SVB looks very professional wearing a polo shirt and dress pants in the Cuetec ad.

We are non smoking here in Wisconsin now. Previously I wouldn't have considered wearing a shirt more than one day. I love it. I think some of the smokers even are beginning to appreciate it.

Honestly, I don't care what another man looks like while playing pool, or videotaping others playing pool. I care about how he plays, and I also enjoy interesting personalities - because that is entertaining. I play and watch pool to be entertained. Your motives for enjoying professional pool seem purely fashion oriented, and that is ok. To each their own. This is the 21st century and alternative lifestyles are acceptable and I'm not one to judge. I say, do what makes you happy.

I obviously don't think that the answer to improving professional pool is a mandatory dress code. IPT did that...and....?

Tap Tap Tap

Personally I like what shane wears most of the time, The casual hybrid shirt with jeans and tennis shoes that he generally wears is just awesome looking and if that can't relate to the average person then what does?

With that said, Alex won the fashion battle in this case. That lime green shirt he wore on the second day with faded jeans looked damn near looked perfect on that filipino ( no homo ). The sleeve looked cool as all heck to although I think that's more to do with his tennis elbow than anything.

Shane looked like darth vader in that outfit no lie. Although normally a big fan of his attire, this time not so much lol.

How about Dean Kamen, inventor of the Segway, and billionaire?

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/science/science-news/3353906/Dean-Kamen-part-man-part-machine.html

"One of the more unlikely legends about Kamen is that he has worn exactly the same outfit every day for more than 30 years: his wardrobe is filled with sets of identical work boots, Levi's jeans and matching shirts. When I ask him if this is really true, Kamen tugs at the short sleeve of his blue denim shirt and replies, 'No - I have long sleeves for the winter.' ?The clothes are bought by Kamen's assistants, once a year, in batches of a dozen: he's fond of saying that this is simply practical, because he needs sensible outfits to work in. 'I always wear work clothes when I'm working. But if I'm awake, I'm working,' he tells me."

Or what about Simon Cowell of the Idol shows and X-Factor. He wears a white, gray, or black t-shirt and jeans every time you see him. I'm sure he can't afford anything else, because he only is worth about billion or so dollars.

NP Petey. Shand just played Alex Pagulayan a race to 100 for 10000 jelly beans. Shane won 100-85 I think.

Hope things are going well for you.

Please notice that at NO time did I mention Mr. Shane Van Boening's undergarments in my OP.

Feel free to re-read my OP for clarification.

It was ManWon who brought this up....or to be more precise...steered the conversation in this direction!

Freudian Slip...perhaps?
