Playing with your self? In that case I usually win that one, I would put a lot of money on that game. Becuase I know how that's gonna turn out, every time.

m79a...Playing 9ball or 10ball, you rack the balls, break them, take ball in hand, and try to run the rack. If you run out you beat the ghost...if you miss, the ghost beats you. It's a way to practice playing a competitive situation, against a superior player. There are no safeties.

What does playing the ghost mean? How does it work?

Yep, thats it. If I was playing the 6 ball ghost, I would rack all 9 or 10 balls and break, then remove the 7, 8, and 9/10 ball from the table, and try to run out the 1-6. If I miss, I lose and they are all reracked and I start over. Basically if you can't run out with ball in hand after the break, you lose.

When I use to play the 6, 7,and 8-ball ghost I would rack 9 and leave them all on the table. If I got to the #ball I was playing the ghost to, I won and would re rack. Either way is cool though. Johnnyt

ghost of a chance

Hey fellas , I've finally mastered 3-ball ghost. I'm so proud. My game is finally coming around.

Don't feel bad, I've been reading about this ghost thing for a while and I had no clue what it meant.

I thought it was at least some kind of a more involved game you played alone, and not simply trying to run out.

Geez ... kids these days come up with the craziest terminology.

I suppose even though I find 9 ball and 10 ball annoying games, I've been playing the ghost for 50yrs. I've been playing the 100 point ghost in straight pool. LOL .... I haven't won a single game yet! :speechless:

I'm sort of competitive with the ghost playing 9-ball even (races to 7), but I'm not quite beating the ghost consistently yet. However, I allow breaking in the nine and playing combos on the nine to count as wins. I'm not sure if I'm wrong in doing this, but some of the threads I've read on playing the ghost seem to have mixed opinions about playing this way. This is why I think it's hard to judge a player based on how they play the ghost. It's like 8-ball; there's a few different rule sets that you can play by.
