I'm pretty sure this is an old A.E. Schmidt case but figured I'd post it up here for some expert opinions. This case is in overall good shape with only some issues in the handle and lid strap. If its as old as I think it is, it's in good shape. The history I know on it is, it was purchased second hand in a pool room many years ago from another player carrying 1 butt and two shafts in it. Its been used since then as a cue case as well. I'm unsure of its original intent but I want to believe it was originally intended to be a cue case. Measurements are: 31 x 6 1/2 x 3 interior is intact and divides the case into 3 sections. Any input is appreciated, offers welcome via PM. This case will be in the for sale forum in a few days.

If anybody wants to PM me an idea of value I'd appreciate it. I'd like to list it in the FS section.

I am pretty certain the case was made by A.E. Schmidt. I am also pretty certain that this case model was used in the Movie The Hustler and carried by Paul Newman. You certainly don't see many cases of this design, if I owned it would be a keeper.

Hope this helps

Looks like an old rifle case.

Styles of hobby cases manufactured like this one for hunting, fishing, even billiards came in many different dimensions, and usually felt lined with a divider. Because yours is at 31 inches in length would make it ideal as a antique cue case.

From the photos it appears to have openings to both ends. That's the give away that tells me this case was originally intended for the other two recreations.

Definitely not the same type or brand of case as seen in "The Hustler".

Very nice acquisition, rare too. Rarer than that pack of Parliament Menthols.

The case in the Hustler was a Brunswick model similar to this replica we did:

The above case is a mashup of the Expert and Aristocrat models.

This is all we have of the AE Schmidt types - the image is labeled AE Schmidt 1957 so we assume that whomever originally provided it took it from an AE Schmidt catalog.

We own a case that is very similar to yours. It is however much larger in circumference. Our research leads us to believe that this case of ours and possibly the one of yours is not an AE Schmidt or Brunswick case.

Hello,

Here is a Fly Rod Case made by Lyon & Coulson Buffalo NY, its longer than the average cue case, needs custom divider made for cues.

There had to be a custom case manufacture supplying everyone the "Hustler" style case.
