Old ebony spliced shafts

Yeah, these play heavy

I love making these, the classiest conversation pieces.

It is 31.5" long to get a natural .845 collar. The ebony splice is over 12" long so I could chop 2.5" off that to make it standard size. Talk about an HD shaft.

This particular one is made to be a compression fit into the wartime Titlist cues. Obviously different collars can be added and the pilot can be turned down.

I just harvest these from old broken cues.

Any goofball with a lathe can do the all-maple variety :thumbup:

Nice craftsmanship and beautiful shaft.

Personally I don't much care for "heavy" woods in shafts, like purpleheart and ebony, but to each his own. I think a shiny, thin, brass ferrule would look really cool on this.

Pretty dang reliably if you hit center ball, but ebony is brittle

These were options on a cue back then, one could also send in a worn and have its front end replace in maple or ebony

Brazilian Rosewood shaft too

Made from a Brazilian Rosewood cue with a spliced BRW shaft. Oddly enough, it's not made of maple. Very nice player.

Left it 32.25" long since the BRW is beautiful. If I chop this down, it would look a little more normal. Going to install a ring and trim the pilot down to match a cue, then apply a clear coat.

Going to make the butt as a jump-break or shorty player

But can you make a shaf that is ebony at the joint and maple at the tip end?

I do believe I am in need of just such a thing...
