Pawn shop find....
They had all of their cues 75% off (normally way overpriced)
Got this for $15
Could it be an early Meucci?

It's dead straight, 21oz with an approx. 13.2mm shaft

Points uneven by a good bit, no markings.

Here are some pics wit ha coupe close ups

Looks like mine, same bumper but my weight bolt is an allen head.

They come with allen head or flat head wight bolts. The bumper on this one looks a little more rounded on the edges than the ones I've seen. The ones I've seen are flatter and have a more pronounced edge. It could just be the way the pics are though.

Meucci bumper. The rounded edges would be from normal wear.

If you look at the bottom points, I would have thought that they would be a bit more sharp than this one.

Meucci...yes.

To be sure, measure the joint diameter.

Should be around .820 plus or minus .005.

All signs point to a Meucci to me. The bumper and the long ferrule particularly. Nice pick up :)

Every aspect of this cue is nearly identical to my Meucci S/P that I purchased new in 1992 (except that mine is 18.5 oz). The point work appears to be the same. The bumper and butt end assembly are identical. The bottom edge of my bumper is rounded and there is a small nub in the middle of the inside part (the tenon). My screw is flathead and leading up to the screw, the hole appears to be threaded. The dark wood in the butt appears to be cored with some other wood. The ferrule is 1.25" (maybe a hair under). My ferrule is 13.1 mm at the interface with the shaft. Mine is 13.5 mm at 6" and remains that diameter through 12". Not at all what I expected from a Meucci shaft and probably the reason I have kept the cue. In contrast to the Meucci reputation, the cue is not whippy. Both shaft and butt are straight after 22+ years.

I purchased my cue from a major Meucci dealer in NJ and I hand picked the butt and shafts from a new shipment of Meucci cues. So I am confident of the identity of my cue. I love my Meucci S/P and won't sell it. I could never get what it is worth to me.

Congratulations on a great find.

I agree about the bumper. And if no signature, the cue is at least 20 years old iirc.

I guess that it could be possible custom maker or could be younger Meucci that has been refinished.

.800 at the joint
No big deal, I see tons of these and any of them unmarked get attributed as "rare" Meuccis :)
Just wondered if there was a sure fire way to ID them
Guess I'll just stamp an S on this one post it again in a couple years ;)

That is a Meucci sir, but I suspect the ferrule was replaced somewhere down the line as that's not the right type of ferrule for the cues age. Back then they still used the off white plastic ferrules, not sure of the material.

Congrats on the find!

Cue ID

If it is a moochi why doesnt it say moochi on the cue ?
The finish is not all mess up where its possible that the moochi logo was rubbed off.
Anyone can buy a bumper that is that style.
All of the moochi replacement bumpers don't fit anyway in less you to take knife to it.

I would think it would of be pretty simple for any cue repair man to cut a house cue in half and pin it. bore it for a weight bolt and then replace the bumper.

How can any of you guys be 100% sure on this ?

One last fact that works against it being a moochi is its held together.

Shit all the moochi's i have or had have long sense fallen apart pretty much after 6 months.

Really? I have had plenty of Meucci cues from the 80s that held up very well over the years.

What's the oldest Meucci you've had?

If this one is a Meucci, and it has all the signs, it is a better hitting cue than many customs I've owned.

Either way, it's a great player,

Okay I'll reveal a secret. The oldest Meucci sneaky petes were

made out of Valley house cues.

Okay it's not a secret now.

Either way, it's a great player,

I have had two older block lettering meucci cues from the 80ss pre red dot shafts.
One red dot shaft meucci my guess 1995 and 3 that i bought in 2006 all black dot shafts.

At one time I really liked meucci cues, but when the new ones fell apart after 6 months and bob wouldn't warranty any of them that was enough for me and meucci cues..

I have photo after photo of failed meucci cues .
Not one of his cues have held up in this area, i know of 5 or 6 cue flippers who stopped dealing with meucci cues because his warranty was worthless and all his cues were falling apart.......

The original meucci were pretty good, all of the black dot cues fell apart ...
