Old vs. New

Very cool!

Between Dufferin and Brunswick of Canada, there are a lot of cool snooker cues from Canada that are nothing like those from the UK.

In my entire collection, I think I have only one Dufferin, a one piece house cue. A guy tossed it in with a Joss to seal a sale. I would love to have an ebony Dufferin sneaky with the 5/16x14 piloted joint. They exist with that joint and are very hard to find.

This is my Brunswick of Canada Tru-Skill snooker cue. Brunswick of Canada went out of business in 1971, which boosted the Dufferin brand.

My buddy has a similar cue too. Green leaf and butterfly. He uses it to break till I told him not to. I’ve played with it and it plays great. It’s no longer his breaking cue and it’s part of his cue rotation now.

The old stuff is cool, but who's playing with 30 year old golf clubs too.
30? My belt is older than that. I didn't think that was old.

I mean a dude 30 years old is a child, no? I mean they think they know stuff and have experience but....

First, welcome to the forum.

Second, pictures or it didn't happen.

Third, I don't have a room. Currently house shopping and planning for one. I will have an antique table, but not terribly old. Maybe a Centennial.

Fourth, I have been known to take some of my early 20th century antique cues to the local pool hall to play, including antique masse cue. I have even played in a local 9 ball tournament with one. In addition I have numerous cues from the 50's, 60's, and 70's that I occasionally use, and a few into the 80's, and a couple in the 90's. I do play any of my cues. Currently I have only one cue that needs restored and is not playable.

Yes, I have "modern" cues and a few customs too.

Rieper, Brunswick, Oliver Briggs, Katz, J E Came, Luscher, and more. I play them all occasionally. Here are some random examples.

My cues are not on the same level as any of yours. But they have been well played and loved but no restoration. Here is my everyday cue followed by my collection - all one piece cues. The seventh has its original cork wrap, which is pretty cool.

Haha.

I was explaining to my daughter the other day that I have tshirts that are older than she.

She also needed reminding that paper towels are expensive.

Anyone able to runout with these old vintage cues?
I ran a rack of 8 ball on a bar table once using a 3 foot yardstick with no alterations, just picked it up off a shelf. I used a regular cue to break them and after that every shot was made with the yardstick, It might not happen again in a hundred years , but it worked that one and only time I did it.
Anything is possible, some are just more unlikely than others.

I am wondering if that masse cue wasn't altered at some point, I am no cue expert, but I haven't seen anything like that before. Have any of you?

Cool!

Level? Meh. You have them and play them. That's what counts. (y)

Mine?

It was clearly "made". Probably from a house cue. Altered? You mean after it was made? I don't know. I guess if we find one like it to compare we could say that. But I think it was made as we see it. Just what I think, I don't know.

I have certainly never seen anything else like it.

Years ago I googled a lot looking for something like it. I just tried again for antique masse cue and vintage masse cue and the only relevant image I get is mine, all the others are modern cues. A deeper search might be warranted.
