Rundy said more valuable than ivory, my avatar has a few in it. I made one ferrule so far they hit better than expected. I'm thinking 1/2 inch ferrules- mark

To try and answer your question, Old Yellow Westinghouse Micarta is more expensive than Ivory because of the type of hit it produces. This type of micarta is no longer manufactured because one of the main ingredients is asbestos. I believe they stopped making the old westinghouse micarta back in the 70s, when they found out asbestos was dangerous, and changed their formula, the later micarta formula didnt produce the same hit as the asbestos ones. So its quite rare to find old westinghouse micarta, its just as rare, if not more rarer than cortland linen for wrap.

I have not tried any cue with the old westinghouse micarta ferrules, so I can not describe how well it hits, but if you use the search function, they're have been many AZers that can testify to how well it hits.

Geez, I guess I got REALLY lucky when I bought a bunch of the old ones Bob Runde used to put on Schon cues. Did not realize how expensive these have gotten to be!

THAT ISN'T THE SAME STUFF.

THE STUFF RUNDE USED WAS YELLOW BUT IS NOT THE OLD ASBESTOS BASED STUFF.

SOMEONE WAS TRYING TO SELL THE SCHON STUFF ON EBAY AS "OLD YELLOW" BUT THERE ARE BIG DIFFERENCES, AND BIG DIFFERENCES IN PRICING.

Wouldn't there be health concerns for the mechanic installing that, as they'd have to turn it down and release fine particles from it containing asbestos?
