Wouldn't there be health concerns for the mechanic installing that, as they'd have to turn it down and release fine particles from it containing asbestos?

When asbestos poisoning hit, it really only affected people who used it day in and day out, consistant exposure is what does it. I was alittle weerie at first but we have proper: ventilation, exhaust, ext....I wear a mask when working with various materials Ivory, cocobolo, micarta, ext......unless your going to use micarta in every cue you build, and theres asbestos hanging in your shop/cuemaking room, I wouldn't think you have to worry.

How does the Micarta hit compared to ivory??. Does it deflect less than ivory??.
Thanks.............TommyT

The eagle has landed!

Dale,
If he didn't land today, he probably will tomorrow.
Mr H

BTW, your PM box is full. Do that club membership thing. It increases your stored messsage count to 150, which is worth the $35 IMO.

I'm no expert, but I'm not so sure the "consistant exposure" theory applies here. Asbestos dust is like miniture hooks, and when you breath it in, it hooks itself in your lungs and stays there. Of course we know it's known to cause cancer, which is why it can't be manufactured any more. Play it safe. Wear a respirator even when cleaning up after cutting. If the dust is airborne, you're at risk.

I'm very satisfied with my order, and so are my over seas customers, they like it better than Ivory, not to mention easier to explain to customs. Dale was great to talk with as well.

Never a doubt.

This is a great point for cue makers and others shipping over-seas.

Absolutly correct, Guys need to be wearing respirators when working with ivory, micarta, cocobolo, and other such materials. Although just for point of reason, and argument, if a guy were to install 1-20 micarta ferrules a year, and not wear a mask, I'd say he's going to be fine, but thats just for argument sakes, people should use their brains, and practice safe cue making. I didn't know Micarta forms little hooks when cut? I know Ivory does. Thanks for the info, but I'm using common sense on this one, I'll wear my respirator.

Received my Micarta purchase today. Smooth sale and prompt shipment. Better than expected so don't hesitate to deal with Dale if your in the market.

Thanks Dale!

glad you're happy:)

If possible, in addition to wearing a respirator, wet cutting, lathing, or filing is recommended. Water or oil, low speed to minimize airborne droplets, and must clean up the spent fluid.

Thanks dale
