I agree. I mean, it's bad enough the guy stole from the booth. But then go to his team and pass around the "prize" as if it were show & tell? No compassion here for his teammates, either.

Good on the OP and Gilbert! Can you imagine how much this probably happens under the radar, without folks like you to see -- and most importantly -- get involved?

-Sean

It is highly likely that he was showing the teammates "the cue i just bought" God i hope so! Anyway Id love to see the mugshot up here.

Do you know the thief's name? Does the team have a name? Can you post the names of the team members?

Just so everyone can be on the lookout for anything in the future since the team was backing the theft!

If things really transpired as you say, that is just crazy that his teammates would try to not only defend him but tell people not to buy anything from the booth. I have very little sympathy for thieves in general and about zero, for 25 year old thieves....The BCA should really think about banning people like this for life from their events. It's hard for me to believe that this isn't one of the same guys that jacks a cue from the pool hall when someone steps into the bathroom......It's just a couple hundred dollar cue, but principal is worth a lot more. IMO people like this deserve the book to be thrown at them.

I think it was about a $600 cue. I tried to get a look at his name on his player badge but Gilbert snatched it up before I could see it. Las Vegas does not publish mug shots.

I've looked through the CTS On Demand brackets and it looks like the official team name is Moose Lodge 2. The table numbers they were playing on match the same time and area. There are 6 names on their roster but I don't know which one was the kid that got caught. The team plays again at 9am tomorrow morning. I'm going to be there about 11:30 so If I see they're still in I'll walk by and see if I can catch any names from their team.

FINALLY!!!! Some common sense! It is highly likely the team didnt know at the time it was stolen. When they offered to buy the cue, it was probably an attempt to save their trip to Vegas. They had a lot invested and "settling out of court" was the right way to do it. That doesnt mean they condoned the thiefs behaviour. They just might of kicked his ass off the team after that.

Im glad you are not on a jury. There is no way to say the team was backing the theft. They might have tried negotiating a way to save their trip. You have two bad guys here. The thief, and the one team member that stood in front of the booth. The other 4 members might have not had anything to do with it. If I was on that team, I would quit, or get rid of the assholes.....one or the other. Point is....know what the facts are before you post names. The other 4 could be totally innocent. Sorry Jeff...didn't mean to just pick on your post. There was a lot of them I could have quoted. Yours was just more convenient.

It's ok! You are right though, I should not be on any jury! Since my home is in Mindanao, I don't think I will get any notifications for jury duty! I should be allowed to deal out punishment though! Ha!

I saw the list of guys on the CTS On Demand page as well, and searched for some on Facebook. You might be able to recognize one of the guys. I found a few of them, but they all seem to be about that age.

I get a warm fuzzy feeling inside every time I hear of a scumbag like this that gets busted and is going to have to face justice.

On a side note, those that choose not to have the person arrested, or choose not to have them prosecuted, and just decide to overlook it and let it go or just allow them to just pay for the item and go on their way etc.....well in my book those people are scumbags at nearly the same level as the thief. The reason why is that they are enablers. How can anything ever get better in society if people aren't willing to stand up against the bad and do something about it when given the opportunity? If you aren't standing against something, you are standing for it. Never forget that.

Kudos to Omega for always being willing to stand up to these thieves and see the arrest/prosecution through. It benefits all of us when they do. To show my support, the next billiard related item that I need to purchase is going to be purchased from Omega Billiards even if their price isn't the cheapest for it.

He must have had another cue that he was using before that?

If so, I'd find a way for it to go missing... or get wedged/snapped between some chairs or something similar.

Bandit, thank you for getting involved like you did and for sharing this info with us.

It really is hard to understand the mentality that would allow team mates of a thief to get mad at the honest businessman who was victimized.

I'm four-square behind Omega's decision to press charges on this guy.

There has to be discouragement for such behavior.

and, imo, the team mate's appeal for leniency and offer to pay for the cue after the theft was simply an effort to save their chances in the tournament.

Their frustration and anger should have been pointed directly at their thieving team mate.

best,
brian kc

Brian, you took the words right out of my mouth. i will add, that i bet his team didn't realize what he'd done, till yáll busted him.

i forget - is the player banned from the tournament? i ask, cause i'm sure he's out on bail by this morning, if for no other reason than to avoid further team forfeits.

and to the OP - he (& they) didn't account for running into BANDIT & the Wrath of AZ!

Good work Bandit. It was the right thing to do. I like the "honest mistake". We hear that a lot but there are big differences between an accident, a mistake, and a deliberate act where one knows they are doing something wrong from the start. As someone posted earlier. A child knows not to take something that doesn't belong to you.

If one of my friends or teammates stole even a piece of chalk I'd kick his fn ass, boot from my team, and never talk to them again. And you know what, they'd do the same to me if I were to steal.

Meet Rigo Morales

After much thought and consideration, I have decided to put this guy on blast. Before anyone thinks he might be unfairly judged....I watched him steal the cue, followed him away from the booth, watched Gilbert go verify it was stolen, watched him admit that he stole it and watched the Rio security escort him off the floor to their holding area. With that being said, it's time for the public service announcement and a few links for your enjoyment......

Meet Rigo Morales who likes to steal things.

Now meet his team that has no sense of morals by trying to justify his behavior, and I quote "as an honest mistake."

Shame on the BCA for not banning the scumbag who stole the cue for life and giving the jerkoff who was bashing Omega at least a 1 year suspension. Do any of you guys want either one of these 2 dickheads around your stuff when you are playing pool? I sure dont.
