Omega cue on Craigslist (custom made, or Production cue from China?).

I am curious about this Omega cue that I see on Craigslist.

http://louisville.craigslist.org/spo/5700076135.html

It has the same OMEGA logo as the ones that I assume are Chinese imports (below).

http://www.billiardwarehouse.com/cues/omega/omega_pool_cues.htm

So, can anyone tell me if the cue in the Craigslist ad is a custom (and if it is, then who made it), or a production cue (from China?).

The only reason I think it might be a custom, or because I can't find one that looks like it, and because it looks to be numbered under the rubber bumper.

If OMEGA was at one time a custom cue, then why are they now production cues (from China?).

Just curious.

Thanks.

If you wish to learn about custom cues history and their makers you should buy a book ...
Because what you just said makes you sound very foolish ..
One of the pictures is the REAL DEAL ..The other is a so called want a be.

Okay, I see. Well, I searched on here for OMEGA cues, and all I could find were OMEGA DPK cues, and they were not marked OMEGA. Sorry, I am just very confused. If OMEGA is a custom cue maker, then why would the maker give some Chinese cue company the rights to put the same logo on their cues? Thanks.

Look at the joint screw.

Yes, I see that is appears to be a Radial pin. So, what am I missing? I see that the OMEGA cues from China also have a Radial pin. The thing is that I do not know what type of joint an original OMEGA custom has on it, so how can I do not know. I can't find any OMEGA cues on this forum. All I can find is OMEGA DPK cues, and they do not have the OMEGA logo on them.

If it doesn't have ivory in it, is it really a custom cue?

LOL... Im putting that in my signature line.

But to answer the question through my tears of laughter. Ivory has nothing to do with custom. If that was a serious questions. If not, you are a genius.

OK OP, I'll let you in on the secret to Omega cue ID. Listen closely to hear if the wood is crying, a dead giveaway for Omega DPK cues.

Who said the maker did?

There are many Asian made cues that steal designs and even names from US made cues.

The were a bunch of counterfeit Joss a few years ago.

Also, believe it or not, there is a market in counterfeits of Asian cues. Not all the cues marked Adam are Adam. There are Adam counterfeits pretty regularly on Ebay.

As for Omega, I see you found the blue book entry. Nice resource, not always accurate, and very incomplete, but a nice resource.

I am just really, really surprised you sold your cue. Maybe I shouldn't be, but I am. I thought you found "the one". I have been in need many times in life and I never sold my cue. But I understand a lot of people do that.

Why would the wood be crying? Dpk isn't a wood butcher

and exactly what was the answer you discovered?

Freddie <~~~ wonderful responses so far

I discovered that "Omega/dpk cues are easily identifiable by their unique flared butt caps and long stainless steel joint pins with thin collars.". The cue on craigslist does not look anything like that description. Silly me. I see a high price on a cue, and automatically assume that it really was custom made. I assume that the Craigslist cue is really overpriced now. It was probably made in China I think, and of low quality.

Yeah, I am really starting to miss the Olney cue now. Should have tried to hold on to it.

Could you maybe give me an opinion about this cue?

http://www.muellers.com/Karella-Cue--KT-18,8109.html

Think it is decent quality? I assume that they are made in China, but maybe they are decent playing cues? I see now that they are or were actually made in Thailand.

I am just trying to find something decent for under $200, and I do not know what the best quality I can get would be for under $200. Thanks.

Call Schmelke. Do you read threads other than your own?
