OMGWTF Blog is up

I know it's a human nature to only focus on negativities and it's been noted.

Thanks for taking the time to reply Sunny. I think that is important.

There, however, is negativity on both sides - the players and the refs. Like you said explanations and responses should be handled differently. The end all is that the players are still the paying customers. I don't believe that the customer is always right either but the way you respond to a customer is how the rest of the situation will develop.

Jay,

Thanks for the offer, but I'm sure Bill Stock who is the Referee Program Director for CSI is already banging his head trying to come up with a solution or improvements. i.e. Referee should be able to rationalize or explain their calls and not have a 'power trip'.

What's really hard is as you would agree that COMMON SENSE isn't always obvious. And, there aren't too many people jumping up and down wanting to be a ref - most of people who know the game would much rather be playin:rolleyes: thus selection is very small.

With that being said, CSI strives to be better year after year and it's not one of those companies who sweep their flaws under the rug. They operate day in and day out with a goal to improve the quality of pool for everyone. However in the scheme of big picture, it's not easy to pull off the 'World's Largest Pool Tournament' without some 'not so proud' moments.

I know it's a human nature to only focus on negativities and it's been noted.

When you finish by saying "It's only human nature to focus on negatives," you are implying that there is no real problem here, other than people complaining. That's a nice way of sweeping it under the rug Sunny.

Tell you what, you can hire me to be a ref next year, if I'm not otherwise working. Mark is my friend and I'd be glad to help him out. I would be willing to work in any capacity you see fit to assist your referee corps.

There should be something written into the rules where if both players/teams agree that the call was bad the ref can be overruled. My team was knocked out on an incredibly bad call that anyone who plays pool at all shouldn't get wrong. The other team admitted it was a bad call but there really wasn't anything they could do about it and by losing that game we lost the match. No guarantee we would've won otherwise but it probably would have been 12-12 with our captain breaking. We like our chances there.

Please, please, please, if you have a good league director or referee in your area that you are used to and you know they get the calls right please thank them. It's not an easy job.

Brainwash'em

As Jim Joyce illustrated this week, the refs don't want to be a factor in the contest, though sometimes they must be.

And I agree with Mr. Joyce, to a point. No referee should want to be a factor in the contest they are not participating in. HOWEVER, in the case of the referee, their job is, not to be a factor, but to ensure that the RULES are a determining factor in the match. That is to say, that the eventual winner wins by playing by the rules, and within the rules.

When the referee doesn't know the rules enough to make a call on a hit, such as the situation described by OMGWTF's, they cannot help but BE a factor themselves, and not the rules. And that is where the problem lies. The ignorance of the referee and the fact that his lack of humility to admit as much prevented him from getting a second opinion, as has been pointed out. Unfortunately, aside from educational training, practical exercises, pshychologic screenings, and brainwash treatment, ala A Clockwork Orange, (I love a some of the Ludwig Van before going out for a bit of the ultra-violence), there isn't too much that can be done.

I still think the eyelid treatment in Clockwork would be nothing but a benefit...

Come on Jay, if you're going to quote me, then you should quote the whole sentence. I also added "It's been noted."

Maybe I didn't speak English correctly or you misunderstood. So, allow me to translate that particular sentence.

- You can do 1000 right, but people will only remember 1 error.
- It's been noted. People who take great pride in their work don't like to be remembered as a wrong doer. Thus, they work harder to correct and diffuse the problem.

I don't know any other way to say it then CSI is aware of the referee situation and it's on their agenda. I don't write the rules or set policies here.

I knew people posted lots complaints and was only informing that it's not being ignored.

Sunny, you've chosen to respond to part of my post, but not all. I made you and Mark an offer Sunny. How you handle it is up to you. No response is an answer too.

Jay,

I love you but c'mon... you also said something like, "if I'm not working already..." No one is going to take that as a serious commitment. ** Now that is only my opinion. I chat and post here because this is a discussion forum and at times entertaining. Many good ideas and resources, but also filled with few bad seeds as well.

If you were really serious, you should contact the headquarter and talk to someone who does hiring and firing. That isn't me:wink:.

Two Things-

If OMGWTF opponent had any class, she wouldn't have taken the ball in hand and placed the cue ball back in its' original spot and shot from there.

The bad referreeing is one thing. The bad attitude they have is another. That is shown by OMGWTF description of what occurred. Read the BCAPL forum for more bad attitude examples as well.

Okay three things - thanks for the enjoyable read. I saw OMGWTF a few time while in Vega$ but didn't get a chance to talk to her. If so, I would have gotten a bad nickname as well. :) I was also amazed how she played pool in those shoes.

You would like her and you would get a great name from her. I didnt see her either. Sorry i couldnt go to dinner either, so much going on and my back seems to be going south again, i'm ok today but this is the first time in over a week.
