I appreciate your input
Gene, have you taken the diabetes education class offered by any hospitals? It usually is a multiple week class that covers the disease and treatment.
You may find this helpful, you will learn how many carbs you can eat per day and per meal. They usually have a nutritionist along with a nurse teaching these classes. Your blood glucose spikes 1-2 hours after a meal so that 170 reading you got a little white after you ate may not be easy to interpret. I believe the target is under 150-160 2 hours after a meal.
Take care of your self.
Hi there and yes I did take the class,
And the class is a must for anyone that is diagnosed diabetic because you can go from zero to 70 in a real quick hurry. because up to now your knowledge of diabetes is just about that,ZERO.
What I thought was funny about it was the people that gave the class were not diabetic. In fact they actually gave us some misinformation. Though most of it was great. Kind of like a pool lesson.
The 2 gals running the class at the hospital in my home town told us diet soda was OK. it's not. The only thing is it doesn't have sugar but it sure doesn't do much for your health.
There were other things to. Oh ya, they didn't even know what Stevia was. When I told them about it they told me they would check to see if it was safe for a diabetic.
I learned more from the diabetes forums on the internet about why certain things were happening to my body and mind. Talking to people that were diabetics. they have been through the misinformation process. They are trying to survive and feel as good as they can with this unpredictable disease.
I wish it was as easy as just going to a class and eating 50 carbs every 2 hours but it isn't.
When my blood sugar is up to 150 my game and brain can go right in the tank. Sometimes when it is 95,which should be ok, I start shaking and need to eat something real bad. Have no energy. Some peoples blood sugar goes up to 200 and they feel fine. Some go down to 90 and they feel fine.
Once I eat to bring it up the spike just changes everything, even the way you think.
If anyone that is not diabetic wants to understand this disease they should talk to someone that has their weight under control and is really working to keep it right.
The ideal thing for me would be to go to bed at 9 every night. Get 9 hours of sleep. Eat the same amount of food every 2 hours. Exact carb and sugar amounts measured. Exercise every day at the same times and the same amounts.
These are just some of the things that are a must. Really tough to do on the road but I do the best I can do.
I wish it was as simple as taking a pill and just eat this. But it's not.
Before I was diabetic I thought diabetics just had to take insulin or a pill and they were fine.
Was i ever uneducated and wrong..
Just the same with learning anything. Learn from someone that is successful at what they do.
Pool, golf,race cars,ping pong.
All the same.
When i got on the forum and told the diabetics on there that they told me I could drink diet soda I got a huge response.
They told me it is like poison to a diabetic. I cut out the diet soda and I felt alot better within a few days.
Thanks for the input. I hope this helps a few players on here that are diabetic but if you are diabetic your already doing most of the things you can do.
Your right there DrPool the school is a must but that is just the start of the battle. Diabetics are fighting for our lives everyday.
Diabetics don't die from old age. But from heart disease, heart attack or stroke. And it can happen anytime for no reason at all. By eating right and doing everything you can do to control it you can try and cut the reason for these things to happen.
But the better you can keep your blood sugar close to normal your quality of life while your here is so much better.
That's what is so tough about this smoke in the poolrooms. Breathing in that second hand smoke really throws a wrench in the works for trying to control blood sugar. It must have to do with less oxygen or something.
All i know is that when I'm in there for 8 hours my blood sugar skyrockets when I eat and the pill doesn't seem to help. Then all of a sudden it will drop way down. Now I'm at the other end of the problem.
Diabetics that I know that smoke are in real bad shape and getting worse very fast.
Good luck with it. Best advice I can give to diabetics is to stay out of the smoke. Most of them know this anyway. .......
