On The Road Again with Perfect Aim....

$ days in the smoke .....

This is terrible again,

I was in Dallas for 2 weeks staying out of it and I was feeling pretty good.

I'm right back where I was except I don't have the ear infection. Weak and shaky. Feek like I havn't even slept. headache. Nose Plugged. Eyes burn.

I'm sure allot of players out there have the same reaction to this smoke.

Feeling like this is not living...........

Got 2 lessons today in the smoke. Good luck with that.

Last night my left hamstring was starting to cramp up. Doc told me a while back it's because your not drinking enough water. I make sure i drink plenty.

I wonder if this is how a real zombi feels.

I noticed something when I go to the pool halls that are no smoking. The people and players that don't smoke just look so much healthier. The ones that go out side to smoke not so healthy.

When i go to a pool hall that is smoking everyone looks kind of rough. Not so healthy Even the non smokers. I know why. It's from the second hand smoke for sure.

Second hand smoke does kill. Some states that smoke have a law that if anyone under 18 is allowed in the room they can't have smoking at all. I don't see why they just don't try to protect everyones health. The must think that if your under 18 years of age your not smart enough to stay out of the smoke. I'm 59 and I'm still not smart enough.

If a smoker up north in the non smoking states wants to quit smoking there are all kinds of aids to help you quit smoking. In the non smoking states even the non smokers can't quit breathing in the second hand smoke if they want to keep playing pool. The only way they can quit breathing in the second hand smoke is to quit pool

In Shreveport if you don't want to be in the second hand smoke you just have to quit pool. If i lived here I would eventually have to quit pool because I don't think I could stand the bad health effects too much longer. I know now why allot of the smokers say they don't even like to be in it.

Sad state of affairs our pool worlds are in where the states don't have it right yet and allow smoking.

Right now today I'm even dreading White Diamonds, one of the greatest pool tournaments in the country.

Let's see. 128 players with about 50 to 75 friends or other customers. At least 50 cigerettes light up all the time maybe more.

If a factory was causing that type of polution to the air outside and didn't fix it they would shut them down and fine them thousands of $$$$$$. . The air inside these pool rooms when there is a tourny can't possibly pass any safe air test.

Oh well. I need to get to the pool hall and get ready to feel sicker. I don't know how i could feel worse but I'm sure I can.

I think they can it cancer.

I know you won't make it to the second day but I'm going to bid $20 on you right out of the gate. I can't help throwing good money after sickly pool players. After $20, you are on your own cause that's the highest I'm going to donate.

Gene,
When you were at Buffalo Billiards, in Metairie/New Orleans, Louisiana, did you see the 2 large smoke machines mounted in the building up high on each side of the walls. They work real good to clean the air of the smoke. I have never seen any in other pool halls anywhere. They have filters on them like an air conditioner does. If more pool halls had them it would be a lot better in there pool halls. Much less smoke in the building.
I hope you feel better Gene. And the smoke does not get you down. Keep up the good pool work and teaching perfect Aim! Thanks for all you do to help pool players.
Many Regards,
Lock N Load.

HI Gene

Can you tell me what kind of laser you were using on the DVD I bought from you? I would like to try one with the beginners I am teaching to play pool.

Thanks..Steve

it's a laser level Mr Steve..........

Can you tell me what kind of laser you were using on the DVD I bought from you? I would like to try one with the beginners I am teaching to play pool.

Your can get them at Walmart for about 10 bucks. Or home depot.

Glad to see your teaching. I'm still trying to get up there.

Good luck my friend. geno............

Had fun today and tonight........

Still feeling kind of sick from the night before I went right back in there for more smoke treatment. I need to be in the smoke before I go to White Diamond because I know the smoke will be terrible there.

I gave 2 lessons and got done about 9:00. A guy over here they call fishhook offered to play me some $20 sets. Needing the practice I jumped all over that.

I won the first set. then he won the second. One of his buddies asked if I wanted to bet $50 on the side. I thought Perfect. I need a little more pressure for sure.

Fishhook jumped out ahead of me 5-2. I ended up winning the set 7-6.

The we played another. The score was 4-0 before I even got to shoot. He ran 2 racks and made 2 9's on the break. I ended up winning the set 7-4.

I hit my tired gear. I never know how long it will last though before I get totally wore out. We had to quit because the Side Pockets closed so I never got to find out how much I had left in the tank.

I know for sure that I will not buy any of myself in the calcutta at White Diamond. Just to sick from the smoke. Unfortunately the calcutta doesn't do you any good if you can get there in every match.

I feel bad for someone that might not know and bids it up on me. So far I don't go that high anyway because the players kind of know I'm 60, diabetic and the smoke just kills me. Allot of smoke destroys me.

I just want to see this great tourny I've heard so much about. This place is pool history and the future.

Great job there Chris with your white Diamond tourny.

My biggest problem right now is i'll hit a non gear at some point and can't beat anyone. All of a sudden the tank just goes empty.

Oh well. I'll definitely have some fun. I only have $40 dollars invested. Not trying to sound nitty but this is just how it is right now. it's called reality.

See ya all there.....

I will pick one up today. I am going to send you a P.M. There is no smoking up here. I think you would find enough here to keep you busy for a while and a lot healthier. I can't stand the smoke either.

Sounds like a good place to be.......

You make me want to zip right up there Steve. I do need to get there for one of those Cincy Bearcat football games.

I am going to make it a priority.

Had a busy day........

Had a lessons at 4:00 at a pool hall called Rackem Billiards.

Nice place and they have free pool today so there was allot of players there.

After my lesson i had a guy play me a $200 set to 9. I just played all out. If I would have slow played I probably could have gotten 2 or 3 sets but I just all out.

Then I headed down to Side pockets and did another lesson and then put a water pump on my van. It was pretty simple. One of the guys at the pool hall offered to do it for free. His name is Al. real nice guy.

He also wanted to learn perfect Aim so I just gave him a lesson and the video at no charge.

After that I'm just back at the room getting ready for the trip to White Diamonds tomorrow. If I leave here at 12:00 I'll get there about 4:00. Get a room and see about some action.

They have a mini tourny fri night at White Diamond but if you get in that you might be playing until 4:00 in the morning. That might be OK because I heard the calcutta won't be over until about 4:00 on Sat. I could get plenty of sleep anyway.

No matter what it will be fun.

See ya all there.

Sounds like you didn't book any losers here in Shreveport. Bet they're all glad you are leaving! LOL! Good Luck in Lafayette!

Winners both ways.....

Sounds like you didn't book any losers here in Shreveport. Bet they're all glad you are leaving! LOL! Good Luck in Lafayette!

My goal when I go to a town is to leave it a little better off than when I came.

The owner of Side Pockets, Roger , asked me how soon i could come back.

He's got a great thing going here for the players in Shreveport and can see that Perfect Aim was like a shot in the arm for all.

I gave about a dozen full lessons but I gave about 30 free mini lessons.

Had allot of fun in Shreveport and looking forward to coming back. Made some great friends as usual also.

Off to Lafayette and the great White Diamonds Tournament..........

Kind of a good article Jamison sent me.

It only takes 20 minutes of secondhand smoke exposure before breathing is impaired, a new study shows.

Researchers from the University of Athens, the Hellenic Cancer Society and the Harvard School of Public Health had 15 healthy study participants go inside a chamber meant to simulate a bar or car filled with secondhand smoke particulates for 20 minutes to see how their breathing was impaired.

In just that short amount of time, air flow through the participants' airways was impeded.

"The observed short-term effects of secondhand smoke tell us that even a short exposure is indeed harmful for normal airways," study researcher Dr. Panagiotis Behrakis, M.D., FCCP, of the University of Athens, said in a statement.

The new findings were presented at the annual meeting of the American College of Chest Physicians; because the study has yet to be published in a peer-reviewed journal, findings should be regarded as preliminary.

Similarly, a study published in 2007 in the American Journal of Public Health showed that cancer-causing NNK -- a compound that comes from the smoke of cigarettes -- builds up by 6 percent every hour in bar- and restaurant-workers who are exposed to secondhand smoke during their night shifts, TIME reported.

"We were somewhat surprised by the immediacy of the effect and the fact that we could measure the average hourly increase," study researcher Michael Stark, principal investigator at the Mulmomah County Health Department in Oregon, told TIME.

Earlier this year, a study in the American Journal of Public Health showed just how many lives secondhand smoke claims in the U.S. each year: 42,000, Livescience reported.

I couldn't believe it when I read this. When your body is telling you to get out of the fire you should listen.

Kind of makes you wonder what is wrong with this picture. 42,000 deaths from second hand smoke that are documented. How many go undocumented.

It's one thing to smoke and wreck your own health. It's pretty sad to want to play pool and have to play in the smoke. Just trying to have some fun and enjoy the game we love and you might just end up dead because of it.

No wonder so many people won't even step in a smoking poolhall?

Well the tourny was a bust for me.............

I drew Cliff Joyner in my first match. Battled it out and had the best of it. The score was 6-5 and I just had to win one more game.

Cliff fouled and I looked the table over and for some reason I didn't see the 2 ball was on the other side of the 6.

I shot the one ball to get shape to break up these 2 balls. I hit the 3 perfect and got the breakout. As the balls split I saw that the duece was one of the balls.
Cliff took ball in hand and ran out the rack.

The score tied now the race to one was on. Cliff played a great safe on me. I kicked one rail at the one and hooked him back. There was almost no way to play safe. He could hit the one but he'd probably sell out.

He wacked the one ball into the 9 ball. It bounce around and hit about 4 balls and a few rails and drifted into the bottom left hand corner.

A bunch of people clapped. Sucked to be me.

Had the game won if I notice the 2 the game before and now he craps in the 9 ball. That's how the cookie crumbles.

Shame too because I was playing pretty good.

In this tourny you needed to stay out of the losers bracket or you just end up being in the smoke too much. If you stayed in the winners side you got to sleep until one or 3 o'clock sunday. If you were in the losers side you had to be back at 8:00 AM.

Pretty tough when you think that the finals were played at midnite.

Not enough sleep the night before and then get up at &;00 AM to play at 8. Play all day and night. That's 16 hours before you get to the finals if you get there.

Now that it's done I'm doing some lessons here with the local players.

I did a free seminar at White Diamond Billiards.

Did about 9 mini lessons and one full one.

As usual. Home runs for everyone.

One man a van and the road............

Last night at White diamonds in Lafayette, La

Heading down to White Diamonds to do another Perfect Aim seminar for the Tuesday night league players.

Last night Jesse Bowman played Chip Compton a race to 15 for $1000. Chip won. When I left they were playing one pocket. Not sure what they were playing for but I think it was $400 a game.

I'll find out tonight how it turned out. Had to leave myself. had a huge headache and my ears were ringing. Still got the headache today.

Banged my forehead with my loaded hotel cart when I checked out of the motel in Shreveport. Was pulling the cart down a step and when I did the force down created a big momentum for the top and it hit me square between my eyes and nose. Seen stars for about 5 minutes.

I got punched once when I had my nightclub breaking up a fight. I would rather have been punched than hit by this cart. Alot of power. Just a freak accident and I've had my share of them.

Never know what today will bring. Feel good enough today for some action. Got plenty of sleep.

After my seminar anything can happen. Been playing pretty good and need the practice.

Nomatter what it's going to be a fun night.

Hello Gene,
I love your stories. Sorry about the cart hitting you in the face. As if you don't have enough problems as it is with the smoke and other health related things. One man, a van, the road. I like that slogan too. I hope all went well for you up there in Lafayette Louisiana! Keep the updates coming! Thanks. Keep the good lessons going too. Get Cliff next time.

I had the pleasure of playing Geno in the loser's bracket on Sunday. He drilled me 7-1. I didn't play well at all, but Geno is flat out a much better player than I am, so it wouldn't have made much difference either way. Maybe a couple more games at most.

The one game I did win, I cut the 9 in the left corner with an almost full-length table shot. Had to slice it like a piece of ham, as it was very, very close to the short end rail. I set up for the shot, put my eye over the cut, just as Geno had taught me and down she went.

I stood up and said, "That's Perfect Aim for ya.". Lol. A few minutes later Geno eliminated me.

It was the least stressful match I've ever played, because I KNEW Geno is a good guy and while I wanted to play better to impress him.......I knew he wouldn't be the kind of guy to talk smack to me during or after the match. Sometimes I run into that occasionally and I don't like it.

Anyway, Geno played great. Everyone should say hi to him when they have a chance.

It is hard to play a person that you like hard/good pool. The killer instinct won't come out in you for some reason. At least that is the way it is for me. I do not play my friends for money either.
Good post. Thanks for sharing with us.

It's always tough to play someone that I've worked with. I need to go someplace else in my mind and play like I'm playing a champion to keep my focus.

Justins a real good guy and I know there can be no slacking at all.

I played what I thought was a fairly good safe. He got up there. Zeroed in with the preshot. came down on the shot. I knew he was going to make it.

That was a tough situation to get down on a shot and drain it. It never even toughed the rail.

If the ball was over about 1 inch more it would have to of been banked.

Glad to see Justin get that deep in the tourny.

Good shooting. Looking forward to meeting again.

Hext time. geno........
