On The Road Again with Perfect Aim....

I should be coming through Des Moines on my way back.........

Give me a call, Gene. I've got some potential students for you, if they can let their egos down just a bit and ask for some help. I'd like a tuneup myself and to ask you if I'm doing what you taught me correctly still. I'm thinking I'm off track just a bit but what I'm doing is working but seems too hard to sustain.

Shiny side up,

Jeff Livingston

That is if I can keep from getting more banged up or I feel good enough after the Tumble on the rumble to even go.

Right now it's still kind of iffy.

I have one guy that did the full lesson 3 times. The third time he was doing it pretty sporty already but he was glad he did it for sure.

And Jeff all you'll need is a tuneup. it's easy to drift away from just one part of it and it doesn't quite seem to work as well.

A tuneup is all you'll need.

Until then Good Luck, thanks and stay safe........

Good news from my body.......

I slept about 11 hours. The body did it's job and repaired some of the damage.

The ribs only hurt now when i touch them instead of just breathing. I havn't tried riding in the car.

There is a tournament at Shooters in Burnsville, MN. Just kind of a fun weekly tourny. Race to 5 9 ball double elim, and allot of the good players get in it.

Starts at 7:30. If I still feel this good by 5:00 I might just take the 2 hour drive and play some.

Might even get some action afterwards.

This would be a good test for the drive to Pueblo, Co. 15 hour drive.

Right now that doesn't even seem possible. Just the ride in the car would be too much right now. I have to leave by Tuesday, tomorrow if i'm going.

There is a great tourny at the Carom Room this weekend. $1000 added 9 ball. And the competition is as good as anywhere else. That's only a 4 1/2 hour drive.

If I can I would like to go to Pueblo though because I could stay there for about 3 days and do a little Perfect Aim Lessons.

Waiting to go to Beloit would also give me a few more days to heal.

Either way it's a winner.

Great pool tournaments in Beloit and Pueblo.

Up up and away........ Got to get ready to have some fun.......

Drove to Shooters for a tuneup...........

Played in Shooters 9 ball tourny on the 9 ft crowns.

Played just about Perfect thru the tourny to the hotseat.

Waited about 2 hours for Micheal Perron Jr to come thru the losers. I put him there 5 - 2 earlier.

Played the first set and I played terrible. Weak and shaky. Had to eat something and get the blood sugar up some. I ate a cookie. Big one.

Still played a little shaky but managed to play to a 3-3 tie with Jr Breaking.

I asked him if he would want to play a race to 9 for first and second place money.

he thought about 3 seconds and said sure. This kid is always willing to gamble and he should. He's been playing pretty good for awhile now.

I figured this would give the cookie a chance to get my chemistry right. Mixture as they used to say in the old days.

Many players today take that aderyl. ADHD meds to help them play pool.

If they did drug test on me for a pool tourny all they would find in my blood is sugar and diabetic meds and seizure meds.

I wish they could somehow make drug testing a regular thing but I think it would be too expensive. Aderyl can't be very good for your body. it's a shame so many of the young players resort to this.

Jr is clean as can be. Good kid and fun to play against.

Jr jumps out of the gate and plays real good. gets ahead 6-3 in the race to 9.

Now this is why i like to play in these smaller tournament. I have a chance to play from behind.

The only time you can practice coming from behind in a tournament is when your playing in one. it doesn't matter how small. The pressure is still on.

Pretty soon Jr is on the hill and I'm only to 4. 8-4. JR

Now the heat is on and I go into my survival mode. If I can't get out i need to play a real good safe. lock him up.

After 4 games of bobbing and weaving, playing safe back and forth, finally it's 8-8. As I'm running out the last rack and I need to draw back from the the other end of the table, hitting the rail and then the 9 ball so i can get perfect shape on the 6 ball.

I hit the rail and hooked myself behind the 9 ball. It was so close to being perfect.

Now i had to kick at it and hope to lock him up. There are 3 balls right there and If I can hit the left side of the 6 ball I have a good chance of hooking Jr.

This is sweet because I get to try and pull off a tough safe with both of us on the hill.

It turned out even better than i planned. Not only did I hit the left side but the cue ball froze on the 9 ball making it almost impossible to get a hit.

Jr jacked up a little and did get a hit but left me a shot.

Made the ball but had to run into another ball giving me a tough shot on the 7 ball. I had to draw it just 3 feet exactly to get a perfect shot on the 8 ball.

Made the 8 and then shot in the 9 ball.

This is why players everywhere need to play in these small tournament. The tougher the competition the better.

Jr plays about as tough as they come. Having players like him in these tournys can help other players get used to the pressure of a tournament.

Still don't know if I'm going to Pueblo, Co.

15 hour drive might be too much for now.

I'll make a decision tomorrow.

Maybe I might see if I can have a friend drive.

One man had a van and the road...............

Come and get you some of this JR.

WoW Gene, when you win it's "the guy is as tough as they come"

When you lose, (please refer to any other Geno post)

He's going to be one of the players to reckon with in the future.

he won one of the Fargo tournys not to long ago.

When I play someone and we exchange dogged outs with each other I never try pump the other guy up and say he shot great.

I tell it how it is.

If you don't like it that's too bad.

I just tell it the way it is or I don't tell it.

The point I was trying to get accross was no matter how small the tournament you are still conditioning yourself for the bigger ones.

Time invested is huge even in the small ones.

If you can get there from behind in these you can get there also in the big ones. I was practicing coming from behind.

This is what I was trying to express, not pat myself on the back.

This small tourny is what it is. But the time invested and the moment are just as big and any huge tourny.

if you can't get it done here in the trenches you certainly can't get it done anywhere else.

Players everywhere should support these pool rooms that are having these small weekly tournaments and basically practice being in these situations.

And yes i was tired and didn't feel good.

We have to play like this in a tournament because there are no time outs until you feel better.

Many tournaments are won or lost because the other guy got wore out. Got wore out and his or her game deteriated by a ball or 2.

we need to be able to function under all kinds of conditions when we play in a tournament.

You got a smile out of me......pretty funny............

I do have to agree that there is some easy matches in some of these weekly tournys everywhere.

But usually in this one there a 3 or 4 players that really make you bear down or you go home early.

Jr is one of those players.

Have a good day there Johnnyt............

Cool thing happened last night.........

A young man that I played in the small tourny last night at Shooters was doing something peculiar.

he would get down on the shot and close his right eye. Move his head to the right so he could see the shot with his left eye. Then he would open the right eye and move a little bit back to the left.

He was making allot of the shots this way but eventually he would miss one.

He's one of the up and coming players that is trying to figure out what I teach and this was his answer to how it might work.

What he was doing was correct but there were also many things that were wrong.

By moving to the right he was making the left eye work as though he had one eye. When he would open the right eye and move back to the left he just went far enough to see the shot keeping the dominant eye in the correct position.

The problem is you can't be doing all the figuring when your down on the shot. This is very difficult.

I couldn't stand it. I had to help him.

I took him off to the side and showed him why what he was doing was kind of working. Then I showed him he had to start all this in the preshot. Not when he was down on the shot.

Many of these small tournys that I play in have young players like this that are trying to get better.

Of course i'm trying to set up lessons but sometimes I just have to help.

I hope this young man will call me because he has allot of tallent and could become a great player some day.

Perfect Aim would really speed this process up.

Many of the best players in areas need to go to these and try to help the younger players with their games. Just by being there they are offering the monkey see, monkey do lesson for sure.

Usually during my travels I like to play in these small tournaments because doing so much teaching I don't get to play much.

I sometimes set up 2 or 3 lessons just from the small weekly tournament.

The lessons are very reasonable and upgrade that players ability right away.

Many of these tournament entry fees are only $10 to $15 and a great chance for these up and comers to see how they stack up to some top players.

Play in these tournys and support your local pool hall. The players will get better and pool will grow in your area. Be a good role model for these young players also. Teach them how to act. They will respond and pass it along.

It's almost like paying it forward only your doing it for the game we love.

Have to cancel Pueblo,Co tournament.

My little road trip to Shooters Monday night took too much of a toll on me physically.

I'm afraid if I did make the 15 hour drive there is no way i could play at any kind of higher level.

Right now I feel like I'm just trying to survive.

There's a great tourny at Beloit this weekend. $1000 added.

If I feel even just a little better by Friday I will go to that. 4 1/2 hour drive and a real tough field.

Right at this moment though I don't even feel like I can go to the store.

Called Pueblo and cancelled my entry............

I hated to do it but I almost couldn't get out of bed today. If it's this bad tomorrow i need to see the Doc.

Now Beloit isn't even looking too good. 4 1/2 hour drive. I'd have to take off tomorrow and stay the night.

If I made the decision right now I'd say it's a no go. If I had a lesson to do today I would have cancelled it.

If you ever had your ribs screwed up you know it's over. Can't do too much of anything.

Kind of weird though., I could function pretty good for a couple of day. All of a sudden it feels like someone punched me. It went from just being sore to being debilitating.

I hope tomorrow is better.

a year ago, Vegas Show, KK9 was knocked backwards down the escalator @ Bellagio. we didn't realize it till later - and too late - but he cracked a few ribs.

took 8-12 weeks to totally heal. nothing you can do, but TAPE them. and breathe shallow.

Played in a 32 man tourny tinight in my home town..

it's a neat little tournament that Scott Dullian and a couple of other guys got started in my home town.

Race to 2 double elim 8 ball.

They have about 5 or 6 other bars involved and when the tourny is at their bar they add $2 per player to the tour.

I had decided not to go to Beloit because i could hardly stand up straight so i went over to the Hollow tonight and played in this.

If I had to quit I could just go home about 1 mile away. Entry fee is only $23.

One of my students of Perfect Aim, Joe Olsen, made it to the final to play me. I was really happy for him.

He didn't shoot like he did against everyone else or he might have beaten me.

I also gave his girlfriend a free Perfect Aim lesson while I was waiting for Joe to polish of the losers bracket.

This is the kind of tournys that make pool what it is all over the country. it's these tournys right in our own backyards that keep players playing and gives them a reason to practice and get better.

Plus it's just flat out fun to see all the friends in one place.

And my hometown is no different than all the rest of them that i travel to.

The players here and everywhere else are just real nice people. Like one big family.

I'm going to bed and the most sleep I could get is about 7 hours and then drive 4 hours if I go to Beloit in the morning. I can't believe that I'm going to even try to get up and feel how the ribs are.

I must be crazy. I must be a pool player.

We all just want to play. What a great game it is.........

Get a new doctor. They don't tape them anymore. Taping them can make you breath too shallow and can lead to resp infection. Rest and good pain pills is all they do now. They hurt like hell and take many weeks to heal. Doctor JT:smile:

I broke 3 ribs on one side and 1 on the left about 3 years ago with the motorhome incident.

That was allot worse. After that one they nicknamed me roadkill.

This only hurts when I breathe, lay down or get up.

From past experience your right Johnnyt. it took about a year last time but I was really crushed.

This should heal in a month or 2.

it does make it feel better sometimes when I put the back brace up around my ribs.

Your right about the taping.

Still posting at 3 am. Guess that means you won't make it to Beloit. I was hoping to see you there. Place should be full of champions today and I'm hoping to step up to some good challenges today.

And stay away from comedy clubs!

And the drunks! I got pushed, proceeded to literally fall and roll head over heels down the up escalator. Pink was @ 7 steps below, and I bowled her over. Thankfully she had a rolling briefcase you pull with a handle that partially broke her fall.

But she was hurt nonetheless. Security at Bellagio hit the emergency stop button within seconds and 2 ran up to us. We were flat on our backs, side by side, heads down the escalator, feet up escalator.

So as I laid there bleeding and broken, guess who security helped up? Discrimination I tell ya!

It took 5 months for the "waffle iron" grate marks to dissipate.

Anyway, glad to hear you snapped one off Gene. Just keep off bikes and escaltors and ya might have a few more good years in you.

Slept 11 hours...........

I guess my body is trying to heal.

I'm going to spend this week trying to help it.

Gonna be doing allot of phone lessons for sure.

Win win all around.
