Randy,

This is a very nice post, but it's a shame that you even had to post it. A bigger shame that Grady and yourself have to come on this board and defend yourselves at every turn. I applaud everything you have done and will continue to do to promote the sport. I also applaud what Grady has done and will continue to do to promote the sport.

If this is true Blackjack, this is a HUGE LOSS for ALL OF US in this forum community. I have only been a member of the forum for a short time compared to some of the people here, but from the moment I began here, I thoroughly enjoy your posts and the advice you have to offer. You, my friend, will be sorely missed if you stay away from this board. On behalf of the other members of this board, I respectfully request that you reconsider.

BTW... I am still interested in your book and you were supposed to get a hold of me when you got set up.

In closing, Randy and David. You are two well respected members of our billiard community and I wish you both the very best always.

Regards,
Craig

ACTUALLY!!!

ALL the people who labeled you a racist / Bigot / etc (I think the current count is approaching 20 forum members at a rough guess!) did so because you keep insulting people by race! I agreed with the original member who labeled you a racist based on what YOU posted. Why do you think so many people keep pulling you up on it JAM? are they all in it together, so many people from so many different places, nationalities, age groups?

I couldn't help myself pull you up on your love of pool players in the last thread as it's probably the most hypocritical post I've seen ever on these forums. How dare you attack other posters for bashing pool players with your track record!

PS
Please can you quote the KKK reference as I don't recall posting that? (I will of course understand if it was another poster and not myself ;) )

Is there any reason you desire to keep this back-and-forth going, Craig?

I have expressed numerous times that I would like for you to cease and desist. Yet, you seem to keep coming back with vicious attacks on my character.

I do not have to defend myself to you. Anyone who knows me personally is aware of who I am and what I am all about. You continue to keep hurling insults my way on a daily basis now. Again, I will request politely for you to stop doing so now.

First of all, Randy, that was a great post and spot on. I hope that you and Grady move past this and are able to work together someday. I think that would be awesome. For those that don't know, when I declined my spot, I asked Randy if my spot could go to Grady. Randy can confirm that I asked him that. Randy's response to that request was exactly verbatim what you read in his initial post.

Grady, you know I admire and respect you as a player, as a legend, and as a person, or I would not have asked Randy to give you my spot. I will support you and any event you decide to put together. Hopefully the arguing can end and cooperation will prevail.

With that out of the way, I'll address something else, and yes JAM it has to do with you. Recently, particpating in this forum feels like a dysfunctional, abusive relationship. Every morning I wake up to read this poison that flies from your keyboard, and your poison has been directed at many others, not just Randy and myself. I can list 7-8 other people you argue with on a daily basis, you argue all day, and yes its all flaming, whether or not you want to admit that. I have responded to many of your posts - and it seems that the more respectful that I am with my words, the more vicious your responses are. I'm not alone when I say that I am tired of it. I have spoken to the mods about this and I was told to put you on ignore. I did, but I still see your words when others quote you - so the ignore feature is not the answer either. I wish you nothing but the best, and hopefully someday you will find a way to interact with people here without being so aggressive and ruthless. If not, I hope the moderators recognize your participation for what it is - trollish and mean spirited.

I have been a member of this forum since its inception. I have thoroughly enjoyed meeting people through our interaction with the topics that are discussed here. That is a great value provided by this forum, and for that I thank Mike Howerton for building this forum and providing this for us. However... I don't enjoy this anymore. I don't like arguing. I don't like reading things that constantly piss me off, and I sure don't like having to defend myself at every turn because someone has decided to to place me at the top of their shitlist. That being said, from here on forward I will not be around here very much because this has turned into nothing but aggravation for me. Life is too short for that. Awesome post again, BlackJack. I asked Mike to close my account last night, due to the same thing. A couple of people have turned this group into their personal "moanfest". JAM did the same thing to RSB. Now she's doing it to AZ - it just tool longer for her to do it.

Don't Abandon Ship YET

Well, I guess that i'll jump in here too. I used to look forward to reading and participating in AZB on a daily basis. I find the threads informative and fun and have grown quite fond of nearly all the posters here.

It breaks my heart to see so many of the posters that I like at each other's throats. Lines have been drawn in the sand and people are choosing sides. I like the people on BOTH sides of the fence and it's impossible to straddle this fence.

AZB is becoming less of a fun place to visit for me and if it continues to stress me out, I will have to visit here less frequently. I don't know the answer, but driving off valuable contributors and daily arguing is certainly not the answer. I wish that I had the answer.

Perhaps it is the political climate of the world and our inability to control our future and happines in today's turmoil. AZB was my little patch of friendliness and I eagerly looked forward to logging in each day, but it doesn't take long lately for so many threads to turn ugly.

I know that people have strong feeling about certain subjects, but can't we express our feelings without insulting and driving away good people ?
I'm going to give the AZB forums a little longer, in hopes that we might try to come together. Losing longtime valuable contributors is definitely not the answer.

Just STFU. It takes two to argue. Unfortunately, you have LWS (Last Word Syndrome), so this will never happen.

Yep, as long as you stop insulting races, pool players, and promoters I won't agree with anything anyone else labels you, deal?

How can I dignify a response to this comment?!

I have spent many an hour trying to be a good contributing member to this forum. I used to enjoy it, until you doggedly attacked me. Again, I have respectfully requested for you to cease and desist. Then you have clowns popping in the thread saying "STFU," which only feeds the fire. They are here for the entertainment effect and have no idea how hurtful some of the posts have been.

I have posted on other threads which are not the topic of this thread, trying to shake this black cloud. Why not do the same and move forward.

I have a live press briefing in 5 minutes and won't be back. Celebrate and rejoice.

And, BTW, "cease and desist" is lawyer-speak for the street term "STFU".

You say tomato, I say STFU.

As I thought you couldn't let it go, Again I didn't attack YOU, you labeled me along with every other European player disgusting. You insulted Canadians and they defended themselves, you insulted the middle east with your flippant camel remark, you insulted New Yorkers with your Yankee remark (what happened to America first?!), You've also made comments about countless other nationalities.

Are you surprised these people replied in kind? If I said America "pool players are disgusting" would you not get upset? I want you to think about something, if you never said these things do you think people would be "attacking you?" I think we both know the answer to that ;)

I thought for SURE that was a Rick-Roll.

I'm not a high-volume poster as my posting-count is only about 300 or so (I forget). I usually lurk around, checking out this site like it's a reality show. Not many people know me on this board, and I know very few people on here - we only know each other from the posts we make.

I learned from the VERY beginning, one must not type a post quickly and click on SUBMIT REPLY, as it can easily turn into a flaming/bashing contest if your words do not "read" properly. I find myself typing a response, reading it two or three times to ensure the tone of my response is how I intend it, and then double-checking to make sure I actually want to submit it to the group. I've typed a number of posts and then hit cancel at the last minute, because I know it would not "hold-up" to the board's wrath.

As someone who is a non-aligned AZB "watcher," I think I have a good pulse on what's been happening with the posting wars.... since I follow it like a soap opera. I think JAM has very strong beliefs in standing up for professional pool and players, as well as a strong defense of American pool, specifically. She sometimes lashes out in a way I believe she would to someone's face (writing as she's thinking), to let them know exactly how she stands - right or wrong. She doesn't strike me as someone who would "puss-out" when confronted.

With that said, written words have a stronger bite than spoken ones. Her strong defense of American pool on an international pool site makes some of the international players defensive, who in-turn, react defensively which makes JAM go all-in on a powerful offense which causes a posting war. The constant references to "America" when talking about pool or pros can definitely turn-off the international players/posters. The slightest hint of someone not going all-in on the pro/road lifestyle brings the "soaring kindred soul" passages that are repeated in many of her threads.

I don't think JAM is a bad person, she just wouldn't make a great politician - and I'm sure she'd tell that to everyone. A great lobbiest, no doubt.

It's always better to be passive-aggressive than aggressive.. in my opinion. Let your intellect shut them down, as opposed to an offensive. This is in no way a slap or flame, just a point-of-view from a third-party who is just an average reader on the board. It's never what you say, it's how you say it.

I think people are a little ultra-sensitive, and tending to make a mountain out of a mole-hill. Jeesh, I didn't think anything about JAM's 'Yankee infested' comment, just a good natured ribbing.

Relax people ... have another cup of coffee, or something. Jam always expresses herself in a polite manner no matter what is discussed, which is more than I can say for others, probably myself included .... LOL

Jam's for Pool and American Poolplayers, so am I. And I think that Grady does indeed have a valid point about the World Championship Invitational.

Now, everyone go watch 'The Big Chill' again ...... Can you hear the music? :D

JAM,
This is your entire problem. Everytime someone expresses an opinion on something that differs from yours you discount it as "they are here for entertainment value, or they are clowns that don't know what they are talking about". You seem to think that since you are a "professional railbird" that your vast knowledge of pool is more valuable on here than anyone elses and that your opinions carry more weight than others.
There are people on here that only play in league and then there are former road players that have gambled on pool all their lives. There are some on here that simply love playing pool as recreation and then there are consumate professionals that play in a tournament every week. Then there are the gamblers and those that back players or interact with players or like the action that pool provides. So who is to say which of these forms of contributing AZB bio's carries more weight and is most relevant to each topic? Not me and certainly not you, Not anyone for that matter. I enjoy reading and contributing on each topic that interests me or that I feel I can add something to. If I disagree with someone then I post expressing my opinion on the subject, but certainly not with name calling or the disdain of fellow posters that you have displayed over the past few weeks. And yes, I know you will point to my cartoons and say those are disrespectful, but surely you know that they are light hearted in nature and mean no harm as everyone else does.
I hope that everyone that is considering leaving has a change of heart and continues to post. Besides, if it weren't for AZ I have no idea what the hell I would do at work all day. :D

I am addressing this because I can longer sit idly by and watch Grady get torn to shreds. It is clear that his repitition is what has irked many of you, but for one minute, put yourself in his shoes. Here is a man who has devoted his entire life to not only playing pool, but advancing it as well. Yes it was his choice to play for a living, but the promotion comes from his PURE love of the game.

There is no question in my mind that the overwhelming feelings of disappointment are well deserved. Similarly, the only avenue of addressing those feelings is through us all on these boards. It is a terrible shame on all of us, as he said, for it to come to this.

2 years ago, at the inception of the revitalization of the world straight pool championships, Grady called me in my home room. I had only met him once before, and found it strange that he would call around to track me down. He asked me during that call if he could get an invite. I promised I would try, and I did. I tried multiple times, and was refused each and every time. For my efforts, I endured insults and backhanded snipes from he and other members of the board.

This year was no different, as I do believe that Grady should have been invited. There is so much misinformation on these boards that it amazes me. Everyone chimes in, "why wasnt so and so (insert past champions name) invited. I dont see their name..." trust me, they all were invited, but the ones who didnt play, declined. So again, this year, I insisted Grady be invited. My inquiry was met with harsher words this year, and so I dropped it. Lo and behold, I was attacked again on these boards.

Now, I dont believe that Grady has a right to know these things. Just like he had no right to know what I pm'd jay helfert about. But since its out there already.. Jay pm'd me about the proposed 1 pocket world championship. He asked among other things, if I would invite grady. My response was that it was way to early to decide, but the fact remained, I was torn. On the one hand, I believe he truly belongs in such an event. On the other hand, I have endured many unwarrented slams and insults from him. I can never lose respect for the legendary player that he is, but as a person, thts a different story.

For the rest of the kool aid crowd, it was interesting to see so many of you jump to the conclusion that I would not be inviting him, after I disclosed that I was in no way responsible for the invitations to the 14.1 event. Yes, I "hand" delivered some invites, but the decision wasnt mine. Incidentally, whenI first brought up the 1 pocket WC, i intentionally included that if this was to come to pass, I would be more hands on, thus more ivolved in the ENTIRE process.

What I find most disturbing though, is that these threads cause nothing but division amongst us. Initially it was amusing, but it has deteriorated into something that I feel will carry on between posters in many different threads for a very long time.

I will finish by saying that, even after all that has been said (ie, "insinctually I don't like him"), I will continue to have an open mind and turn the other cheek. I hope all of you will cease immediately from posting anything negative about Grady, now and in the future. And all of you that love and revere him, shower him with the respect he clearly deserves.

Regards,

rg

You have stepped up to the plate Randy but I wish you would have kept this thread to only one subject matter. :D

Regardless, you are to be commended for your class act in your broad statement about Grady.

I could break bread with a man like yourself. You've earned an admirer from the way you have handled the dissension that has appeared between you and Grady on this forum.

I hope that my friend Grady Mathews sees this candid olive branch you have generously and honestly extended and accepts it.
