One Foot On The Floor

I just saw the strangest thing that I have ever seen in a pro match. Fedor Gorst vs Alex Pagulayan in a One Pocket match. Gorst gets on the table to make a shot with both of his knees on the table and his feet hanging off the table three feet off the floor. No one said a word to him, not even Alex. Does the one foot on the floor rule not apply in one pocket?

Some pool rooms, albeit very few, allow players to get on the table. When I moved to Oklahoma City in 1985 every pool room allowed it.

Out of respect for table/equipment that should not be allowed. Stay off the table

I will be the first to blast a player for climbing on a table to celebrate a win but I really don't have a problem with a short player carefully climbing onto the table to reach a shot if both players agreed in advance. It's pretty common in the Philippines from what I have seen.

On a side note, I watched that match a day or two ago and continue to be impressed with the level Alex plays that game.
He smothered Gorst like a constrictor. I was painful to watch. It affected Fedor's shooting ability and took him out of his normal, conservative play.
People found it hard to believe Alex could spot Tony in that game and outrun the spot.
Watching this match will help explain it for them.
Master class in 1P in my limited-1p-knowledge opinion.

This would be at Buffalo’s in NOLA where the owner encourages the participants to climb on the table. It’s the biggest paying One Pocket tournament of the year, and the novelty of allowing the pros to climb on the table is part of the attraction.

My only hope is that more people know about this so that we dont hear weird comments about this tournament. It’s a great tournament.

Alex is one of the smartest players around.

There’s a pic of me on the middle of the 10’ table jacked up doing a masse shot🤣

Buffalo isn't exactly vertically challenged, more like medium height I would say. However, he likes to climb on a table when needed rather than find a bridge. This goes for anyone 24/7 in his place. Once somebody put on an event there and didn't allow getting on tables. I think that might have been the sole time that happened.

Not hard for somebody that knows what they are doing to get on a table without damaging it, not hard for somebody that doesn't know what they are doing to break cushions loose from rails. I am tall enough to get on a table easily without hurting it, just my thing though, I don't climb on tables!

When I first saw this I couldn`t believe it. Where I grew up (Northern NY) the gospel was 1 foot on the floor. Nobody ever suggested otherwise. I am not a fan of climbing on the table. Instead develop skill with the bridge.

A lot of times you can have one foot on the floor and laying on the table and rails and it’s no different than if you were completely on the table. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Actually it is quite different. Your reach is limited with 1 foot on the floor. This is not the case if you can get up on the table and walk around.

I know some 3 years that have more respect for equipment. They climb up on a milk crate

You have a point but bear in mind that the man that allows people on the tables owns the tables and the business. Buffalo's place, Buffalo's rules.

When people didn't like the way I ran my business I always told them fifteen thousand a month and they could call the shots!

The sturdiest tables going!
