One of the most unique Szamboti cues on this planet

It is my favorite cue(did i mention that??;)), propellors are my favorite, not to much or too little inlays(so its still a player) what cues are for in the first place, The wood is real pretty(my camera sucks-i used a iPhone for the pics). The history and the fact it plays so good is what makes it my favorite cue.
yeah eric, i prefer the looks of a purdee rosewood four myself!
one of my gus rosewood into rosewood fours is my all time fav!
purdee wood combined with master craftsmanship!
plays like a dream! :thumbup2:

Eric
You are one lucky guy to have a cue made by Gus & Barry. It would be an honor & priviledge to own such a beautiful cue. Congrats to you Eric for owning it & thanks for sharing the pics & story behind it.

Thanks Jeff!!!:):)

I believe that rosewood/rosewood cues tend to play better as a rule, assuming that the cue maker is a good cue maker. I have noticed that I tend to like the play of rosewood cues better than other woods that are made by the same cue maker most of the time.

Eric,

You have not sent me pics of the butt screw, I have shared all pictures that you sent except the other picture of the whole cue - that was blurry and the one I posted is great, shows the cue much better.

I would post the pictures of the butt screw on Saturday if that's fine for you, just send them to me - I really don't know how much PC time am I going to get until then, I'm away from home.

i will resend it, its the worst pic i sent you, but it did show the screw and the bit of rust on it(i kinda like that). This is a HARDCORE players cue. Someday I might make it my fulltime player(when I dont travel anymore or get my own jet LOL ).

Thanks again for alll the complements, thats not why I posted it, I just wanted everyone to see what Gus did. We see his cues all the time here-and thats lucky, years ago it wasnt so easy. All of his cues are worthy of a 2nd or 3rd look. there aint a bad one. But there are a few special ones that people need to see, and hopefully someone here never saw this cue and knows more about Gus. This is about Gus, this was for Gus. Thats how I roll...

Count me in as a rosewood on rosewood lover. This sure is a beautiful example. Does anyone know the veneer colors? Its hard to tell from the pics. Also it looks like swirly braz. in the forearm and straight grain in the points+sleeve.
Thanks for posting these.

The veneers from the inside, are white/purple/orange/brown its a strange sounding combination but they work well, the tones of the colors all match,

the rose wood is mostly straight, just below the joint on one side thats in the picture.

i will get better pics of this cue i promis

Thankd Steve and everyone: I'm short on time so i copied and pasted what i wrote to David who posted the pics(because i'm too lame and dont know how to post/resize pics) Thanks for posting them buddy.

This is a Hopie stryle GSB, It was started by Gus Szam and finished by Barry Szam. Its rose wood on rose wood. the wood is amazing but my camera dosent really pick that up, I will send you all the pics I took, Start a new thread in the Cue gallery forum, its without a doubt the best Hopie cue I have ever seen, it plays better than it looks, and I do play with it some, not alot but a hour now and then. It is my favorite cue in my collection, because my 2 favorite cue makers worked on it, because it plays good, I love the propellors, the wood, the balance of inlay work on the but and points, the chain link ringwork, no bumper.

Rosewood/rosewood cues play great I think better than maple. there is not one flaw in this cue. there is no finish on the black ring at the bottom of the cue so it wont chip like some bumperless cues do and the bottom edge of that black ring isnt sharp so it wont dent and leave a flat looking spot, the way its built it dosent need a bumper and there is no chance of damaging the butt of the cue.

this is with out a doubt my overall favorite cue I own, some I own have more senemntal value or cost more, that is meaningless to me, this cue is #1.

I will add more to this, later today. One quick thing is this cue does get used, and it plays as good as any cue i have ever hit balls with, infact it would be my daily player if I could travel with it. One nite Max Eberly and I played a couple hour session with it, we shared it. He loved the hit too. Everything about this cue makes it my #1 all time cue if any cue I have ever seen or own. I dont think I will ever see a cue that topps this in my mind, the Bushka/Gus that Mr. Paul (cant remember his last name:embarrassed2:) posted up here a while is a close second. But like I said before cues arent a contest anyways-I just love this cue to death and its history.

thanks Eric.

PS I let anyone hit balls with this cue that can play, no bangers allowed but any solid player is welcome to use this cue.

awesome cue.

A very important point I believe. The straight grain Brazilian Rosewood is the most beautiful to me. I also believe the straight grained Brazilian Rosewood is where the wood gets it's legendary reputation for excellent play.

Bump to the top.

We were talking about this cue at the M-Cup a few days ago. Its my all time favorite cue. I doubt that will ever change. Even if I fall into some monster Gus's someday down the road, they still will be second to this cue.

I DO HAVE BETTER PICS OF THIS CUE NOW, I DONT KNOW HOW TO POST THEM(still, sorry) BUT THEY ARE IN KELLYS MACHINE, SHOOT ME A EMAIL AT EP90210@HOTMAIL.COM AND I WILL GET THEM POSTED UP. DAVID(POOHKILLER) TOOK BETTER PICS A WHILE BACK, I'M NOT INTO POSTING ALL MY CUES BUT THIS CUE NEEDS TO BE SHARED WITH EVERYONE.

I usually do not post on cues like these because they are out of my league and I know so little about them compared to the others on this board, but I do have to agree it is a beautiful piece of work. Not too much inlay, not too little. Just right. I would love to see just how well it hits. Thanks for sharing, but I suggest we buy Fatboy a good camera and some photo lessons for Xmas. If we all pitch in, it would benefit us all and our cue addictions.

Man o' Man....... that is an astonishing cue....... Wow..... Turned me green with envy..........

I don't even know how to describe how "big" this cue is. I am not sure why it popped into my head, but I would name it the "Godfather"

Best,
JimmyK
