One piece slate on a GC4?

I'm getting ready to completely redo my 9 foot GC4. And while I can have the subrails extended to tighten up the pockets, there doesn't seem to be a practical way to extend the shelf depth. I'd also like to go to a one piece slate if possible? That brings me to my question. Can a Diamond single piece slate bed be installed on a GC4 without drilling all new rail mounting holes? If so, does anyone know if its possible to buy the slate without buying the entire table?

Call Diamond, as they are the ONLY table manufacture in the world that has ever had a full size one piece 9ft slate made. Ask for Brian...LOL

Yes, with some modifications the one piece Diamond slate can be mounted to a GC:grin:

Great American makes a 9ft one piece.

Nice try, but it's undersized, not 57 x 107 x 1"....it's undersized at 53 1/2" x 103 1/2" because the rails don't bolt through the slate when mounted, Valley and Dynamo also had the same slates manufactured, but not any more:grin:

Thanks Glen, I sent an email to Brian at Diamond to see if he would sell me the slate, and if so what it would cost.

What were the specs on the one piece 9' Global coin ops?
Only one I ever saw was in Cali after a pool room in SoCal closed down.
But for the record, I agree with Glen, call Diamond.

I'm a little confused as to why not one mechanic has told you the obvious...

What you're wanting to do is more trouble than it's worth. By the time you refurb your GC4, pay to have the subrails extended, purchase, ship, and have the custom one-piece slate installed, you could have just bought a nice Diamond table...

I suggest you sell the GC and do just that. I'm sure that RKC would be glad to assist in this, then you'd have a table with the attributes you're looking for and have it set up by a qualified professional.

I'll go out on a short limb here and speculate that shipping the slate will
cost more than the slate itself if they use a common carrier.

Perhaps true. However, I already have the following: Existing GC4 + new frame from Brunswick to replace the one I have missing supports + set of Artimis Intercontinental 66 cushions + Simonis 860HR + RKC agreed to setup and extend sub-rails the next time he's in Tucson. If I can get the one piece slate for anything close to reasonable I can have my dream table with all the features I ever wanted, setup by the best. If I can't get the slate at an affordable price then I'll just go with the 3 piece I have. No worries, just want to check before I abandon the effort.

For what its worth, I've had other AZ members PM me and ask for the results of my investigation when I get all the facts. So I'm not the only one interested in doing this.

Consider this, if it were possible to do this at a reasonable cost, everyone would win:
1. Table owner gets what he wants.
2. Table Mechanics get extra business.
3. Diamond makes extra sales and generates good will.

I'll be the first to admit that if I had it to do all over again I would go with Diamond. But at this point I'm in way to deep with my GC4, not only the table but the room.

So its wait and see. Diamond may not want to sell just the slate. And even if they do, as Dartman says, it may be too costly. However, it doesn't hurt to ask.

You're definitely not the only one interested. I would like to see this project completed. Please keep us updated. I want to know if it banks short like a Diamond when finished with the Artimis rubber on it.

It won't bank short, none of the GC's I've installed Artemis cushions on have ever banked short...LOL

I said "I" could do it, but I didn't say Diamond would sell the slate..LOL so that part is up in the air buddy, as I said that's a Brian call...which means he's going to check with Chad...who's probably going to check with Greg...and so on...LOL So I don't know at this point in time because I don't really know what to tell you on this one:p LOL

No problem Glen, I understand the slate portion is up in the air. Quite honestly, I don't know if I would sell me the slate if I were Diamond. I can see pros and cons for them on this one. It won't change my good opinion of Diamond if they decide against it. They've already gone way out of their way for me on the Artimis and Simonis. And as Dartman pointed out, even if they will, it might be cost prohibitive. I'm good either way, just thought I'd check to see if the option was there. I'll keep you posted when I hear back.

Well I'd better get packing, I'm leaving in the morning for Vegas to watch the Mosconi Cup. My favorite time of year! BTW: Is anyone else going to be there? It would be cool to meet some of you.

James

I'll be on the phone with Diamond tomorrow and while at it will see what I can find out on the slate.

First of all, thanks to Dartman for getting the following info for me from Diamond. I didn't speak to them directly or get a specific quote, but Rick got a price of around $600 for the slate. The kicker is the $1000 to ship it and then no practical way to get it on the frame after it arrives. Again, I've got no exact specs but I've been told about 1500 pounds. I don't know if that weight is correct, just what a friend told me. In any case the $1000 shipping put it out of my price range anyway. Given the price and logistics I think I'm going to accept defeat on this one and live with the 3 piece and shallower pocket shelves I have. Thanks to everyone for the replies. James

slate would be like 600 lbs if it arrives in one piece. I ordered custom made slate direct from ITALY 1.5 inches thick with dowels, custom pattern with deeper shelves, extra slate screws etc. Cost delivered to me was 325 per set. One of the biggest problems in this country is the cost we all get charged to ship. FYI Glen, there are many GC's out there with 1.5 slate, you will just never see them as their mine. does that light have lasers? BTW Glen well over 50 mil, think I will go for 100 mil now, you aren't passing me again and I don't even post in the main forum.

I think I mentioned this but if I didn't they suggested putting the slate on a dolly along
with a table. Then it's a matter of sending it when someone from the plant is heading your way.
Probably wouldn't hurt to contact them to get it on the to-do list.

Whichever way it could go you still deal with getting it off a truck and into the house.
Their concern with shipping thru common carrier is getting it there unbroken.
If you do call ask for Aaron - he has the heads-up on this.

How many sets were in the shipment?
