do you think that 2 hrs and 40 min is too long for one game? was watching the one pocket tourny up at olathe, and my buddy lost his first match and had to play the loser of this marathon match. They all started at 9 pm, as i said he lost his first match, found out who he had to play next, and they were still on their first game. First game until almost 12 pm. I dont know, i dont play much one hole, but it was stupid.

I think it depends on whether you have players that are playing slow or if it is a "position" battle. If the players are standing over every shot for 5 minutes, then they should be told to speed up. JMO.

Agreed. Slow games can happen sometimes even though many of the balls are still downtable.

To answer your question.... One pocket is the greatest game on the planet -- so there is no 'too long' as long as the game is a good one.

Sometimes it takes 5 minutes, sometimes it takes hours... if the right people are playing it, it is always beautiful.

i dunno man, 5 hours is long time!....I have never been a big fan of the "wedge" type of game, but it's the players choice if they want to play slow or not. I on the other hand like to rock back and fire!...my game is about shot making and pressure. I can bunt the balls around, but I'm always looking for a shot to keep the hammer down.

Saw a match between Howard Vickery and Tug Tugwell where one game lasted a little over three hours. Neither player would fire at their hole.

I, also, saw Keith McCready win a race to 3 in the finals of the one pocket tourney at Red's in Houston that , as I remember, took under 30 minutes.

Maybe Keith will respond?

Problem is

when you get done with a 'Marathon' anything in Pool, you just get to where you don't want to do it again.

I once played a game of chess (another good game) with my cousin (who taught me) that took 7 hours, and I pretty much lost interest after that.

For a match outside of tournament play that is not too long. (especially if you win that game). However for tournament play that is way too long. This will destroy the timetable for the other matches.

Some local one pocket tournaments will have the tournament director monitor games like this and have the stipulation in their rules to put some balls on the spot if a certain number wind up behind the line.

depends on the bet
You're quite right.
But some play for the game and not so much for the money. Some would rather win one game for $20 from a good player that lasted two hours than win $200 from a weak player that lasted 20 minutes.

I like to play one pocket...I do know if they did that in a match it would be the last time...I shoot for the whole whenever I can...I've played some real dumb one pocket players before and let me tell ya it makes you want to strangle 'em....LOLz...this game WILL force you to control the CB....;)

as for slow play I've never dealt to much with it myself...

I agree on 2 things.
1. It depends on the bet !! $20 a game way to slow !!! The table time is gonna be more than the bet !!! $500 a game .. Im working !!! ;)
2. In Tournament play, that is way too long unless it was the LOP tourney's !!!
Generally I would feel that I would monitor the game to make sure that one or both players werent using "slow play" to their advantage as a tactic.
And yes I would imply spotting balls in the kitchen if the game was going to slow. Aknowlegable player could use that as a "move" by getting balls below the head string to get them back into play !!!

God I love 1pocket !!!
