Yesterday, when I first read Jersey's post I was like many of you. What nerve I thought. A fellow making claims such as these when no one here has ever heard of him. Outrageous!
But, when I read it again this morning (a little slower this time) I saw nothing at all wrong with it. It was concise, to the point, and I'm sure includes a money back guarantee if not satisfied, right Bill?
I think a lot of times we here at AZ (myself included) tend to jump to conclusions far too quickly and especially at those who have a low number of posts to their credit. This place is not a 'good old boys' club, it's a forum.
I must go now and meditate. Peace be to all.![]()
let me word it different. if someone plays pro speed they definitely have all the knowledge to pass on,whether they are good at passing on the knowledge is on them.
someone who has never played at or near pro speed does not have the full array of pool knowledge to pass on whether or not they are good at passing whatever info they do have.
that being said the lessor player could be the better teacher.
Yes,
Absolutely money back guarantee.
In addition I initially put expensive. Only later did I add 200 dollars a lesson. Traveling would be a great expense. I also said it depends on where and how long or how many lessons. That all takes part in calculating cost of doing business. What if I have to go to Florida, which I do. Or if I have to go to Syracuse or virginia, Kentucky. Transportation and hotels cost a lot of money. That is not a lot of money to charge when you consider everything. Sure local teachers charge less. In that case if you think they are what you want you should pay them. If you want me. I charge more, I have to.
sorry for all you guys who can't afford it. Didn't mean to offend other teachers as well.

Hey Bill, I think we met about 4 years ago or so when I lived in NY. Do you play or did you play with a Mottey?![]()
Okay Bill, now I know who you are. I just remember you from when I would play at Gallery Billiards in Newburgh NY. I remember an older guy coming in one night and looking for one pocket action, I love one pocket and was just starting out in pool but unfortunately for me I did not get to see you play anyone one pocket for cash. I did ask you about your cue and you said it was a Mottey and you were having a fancier one made. Good luck with doing some lessons, right now I am working with Scott Frost on a one pocket instructional DVD.Yes, Lenny,
Paul Mottey is one of my closest friends in the world. We were on the road many a time. He has been my friend for almost forty years. I only play with a mottey cue since he started making them. Great great cue....Great great guy. Has a nice wife too. He's from Pittsburgh and owns a great poolroom and a bar. Go there when you're in town, you won't regret it.

I give one pocket lessons.
I know the game as well as anyone.
I've got credentials. (successes)
I've got forty years experience.
I teach well.
I charge a lot. depends on where you are and how long you want lessons for.

thanks, and thanks to everyone that gave it a chance and took the time to read and think what it might cost to give lessons in other states.Woohoo!!! Nice Job Bill!
Like others, when I first saw this post, I simply never even opened it up (since you can see the post in the preview). And I simply passed.
Now I wake up and there are 9 pages of 1/2 bicker and 1/2 really good posts. And to top it off, you've got those that may have seen you in a negative light now reconsidering.
Your post was straight and to the point, but it opened you up to some negativity. Glad you could fade it. You hinted a couple of times about it being more expensive to stay in other states. Can you clarify? Does that mean the first $200/hr is due to your travel budget? Is it a lower cost if we go to your home poolroom?
Now to the important part of this whole thread other than JerseyBill's sly marketing skills. Did everyone read and reread John Schmidt's perfect post and follow-up about instructors/teachers skill level? It's one of the, if not THE most accurate and succinct explanation of why someone would want a professional player as an coach and why someone would want a professional instructor as an... instructor. Both have their strengths and that gives the rest of us legitimate choices.
I'm not into the rep game, but if I could, half the posters or maybe all of the posters in this thread would get a green box from me.
Fred <~~~ doesn't know Bill, but thinks he rocks
Good Luck with your venture. You couldn't have picked a better guy to make a DVD with. I'd love to buy one myself. I enjoy watching him play.
