One Pocket on a 7 ft?

I'm probably going to try the same thing on an 8 footer. I'm getting back into the pool after 25 years. I reclaimed my childhood table but in a year or two I may end up upgrading to a 9 footer if I can make it fit. For now, I can learn on this as best as I can.

Another returning to the flock, too. Best of luck to us!

I've updated this chart with more accurate calculations. The results are more like coco said (10 balls on a 7-footer is proportional to 15 balls on a 9-footer).

We used to play a short rack version on small tables. Just like the big game but with a normal 9 ball rack. First to 5 balls win. It was actually pretty darn fun and a way more offensive game.

There you go! Nine Ball One Pocket has been around a long time and I've seen big action at this game. The correct break is two rails into the back of the pack! Try it, you'll like it!

A friend has a 7 footer has started learning 1 hole on it.
None of us know the game so he has a house rule, only about 5, sometimes 6 ever go.
We all have to play opposite handed the entire games. That rule is stritly enforced for 1 hole.
It's helped all of us for shooting opposite and we're learning some strategies of 1 hole.
2 or 3 times a month we get on a 9' somewhere.
We're old but we're enjoying it and having fun with each other, & have had fun for 50+ years.
The fussin and cussin over missed shots and sharking is a thing to behold.
(I forgot to say we only play 6 ball or 10 ball for 1 hole on this table)

If you have 4 people to play I think 1 hole with 4 people and 4 different pockets could be fun. Imagine the strategy on that one!!!

a minor nit if "12 footer" refers to a snooker table:

1. The Standard Table
(a) Dimensions
The playing area within the cushion faces shall measure 11 ft 8½in x 5ft 10in
(3569mm x 1778mm) with a tolerance on both dimensions of +/- ½ in (+/- 13mm).

But then the balls are a different size as well unless you're playing with pool balls to make it more of a challenge.

Many Thanks.

Thanks to all for the help. Its great to be playing again and a true pleasure to visit AZB.

This is why "the aiming system that shall not be named" can't work on a Snooker table. Its leader states the only reason the system works is because the table is exactly 2:1. A snooker table is slightly off exactly 2:1.

Well, the tolerance stated is large enough that the playing surface could be 2:1.

I'm hoping that Pat's table gets up to 28 for the snooker table so we can make a triangular rack of the balls: 1+2+3+4+5+6+7. And that would allow ties so you can play the rack over!

I realize I may be flamed for asking this but: I only had room for a 3 1/2 x 7 at home and live 2 hours from the nearest 9 ft tables. I realize many despise the "bar boxes" but given my situation could I still begin to learn the fundamental strategies of 1 pocket on my small table? Hopefully someday(post Covid) I will be able to trek once weekly to the big tables but just wonder if it's advisable to practice 1pkt on my smaller table. Thanks In Advance,Mike S.
If you only have room for a smaller table then anyone who "flames" you is kind of a jerk. What are you supposed to do, not play at all? Work on your game as best you can, improve your stroke, not a damn thing wrong with it.
