One pocket pickle

The "chaos theory" has worked for me many times.

I like to call the "chaos theory" the "special of the day" or the K-Mart blue light special...everything must go!:D

I just reread all the posts and have narrowed down to what I think are the best two solutions. My choices are Jrhendys 5 to the 7 and the two rail kick toward the seven by 1 pocket ghost. My first choice would be the 5 to the 7 but only if I would be certain that the seven could be gotten out of there without touching the 10 ball and if I could lay the cue ball very close to the 13 ball. To guard against the cut on the 4 ball and to protect the 14 ball.
The two rail kick toward the 7 ball is more effective and I may consider it my first choice but only if I had confidence on the table speed.

barber......Always good to see another one pocket player who like myself has 30+ years of experience playing the game, coming to the same conclusion that I did in a shot choice situation.

There is one other option, but it is for the strongest players only (not me). Ronnie might have shot it this way many years ago.

You hit the 14 three rails firmly toward your hole, playing it a little long if possible to contact the 8. You must put the cue ball up table, ideally on the middle diamond of the end rail. You have a chance to get lucky here and make a ball, and you have played an offensive shot. If you control whitey you won't give up anything either.

Notice where the 8 goes if hit solidly by the 14. If it hits the side of the 1,6 it goes toward the pocket. Notice also the direction the 1,6 is lined up in, Toward your hole also. And the 14 is going that way as well. Definitely a Ronnie Allen special.

I know this option looks extremely difficult, but if you ever saw Ronnie play in his prime, it wouldn't surprise you to see him shoot it, make a ball and run out. No one ever did things like this better than RA. Mr. Henderson can chime in here if he likes.

Ronnie could make miraculous shots seem routine. After you saw him run ten and out from nowhere for the hundredth time, you got used to it.

You all might think I'm crazy, but I'm not joking. Ronnie ran out from spots like this all the time!

I also looked at this shot, but would be worried about a kiss on the cue ball from this angle or a scratch in the corner pocket if I over hit it. You are right about Ronnie, he might have turned the game around with this shot or even played one we don't even see. John

After that, here would be my response, estimating of course where the 2,12,15,8,1,and 6 balls end upafter your shot.

Your Turn :D

Post a plausible return and I'll show you what I'd do. Because that shot ain't happening :)

If you will make the table showing where the balls in the stack end up after your shot, then I can take a schwingaroo at it.

Maybe we need a section of the forum devoted to virtual matches...

And there should also be a computer image of a virtual light over the virtual table with the $$$/stakes stacked on it........:)

And a virtual rack girl would be nice:eek:

I would just like to see someone make a video of this layout with their response to it so then we could really see what you would do and the outcome, its all good on paper. If i had a cam that i could get video online i would post, maybe my digital camera can do the trick.

I would agree with that. There really is no way to show what you would do, due to the inaccuracy of what you can do by simply estimating. That is what I like about the "Winning One Pocket" book, they show a diagram, and then show what happened when they played different shots from the diagrammed position. It isn't video, but it is the next best thing, since they are actual results.

Nice - looks like a straight shot on the 5 would do it and let you stick the CB (but are you sure the 7 doesn't kiss off the 10 and roll back in front of the pocket?).

Here's what I probably would have thought of, which isn't as nice and probably more risky:

This could be one of the worst plays I have ever seen. Risky is not even remotely close to what this shot is. More like suicide. Even if you pull it off, all I would do is thin the six and put the cue on the 5. Then I have one high and low and you are dead.

If you don't like John's shot, which would be my choice, you may want to try to kick two rails (short/long) and try to clip the edge of the 9-ball so the cue floats between the 10 & the 7 to the bottom rail. Yes it's risky but at least you get something done to get out of the trap if executed. You take the 9 bank out of the equation & it doesn't look like a scratch possibility. Even if you hit the 3 or the 10 you don't have to sell out. The intentional to the middle of the short rail does nothing since your opponent can easily hit rail 1st them the 14, back to the rail and fall aganst the same cushion it began on. You would gain nothing but less than a diamond from where it began. Or your opponent can do something agressive and begin running balls. John's selection seemed to accomplish much more with very little risk.

Dave
You are on the right track with the 2 rail. I personally would play the first response of 5 to the 7. But if I chose the 2 rail, I would 2 rail under the 9 and aim for barely hitting the 7.
