One Pocket shot

I know there have been other threads on this but I can't find them. How is this shot made. It came up at least three times in the Frost-Efren match up. It looks like there is draw on the cue ball. When I've tried it the 1 goes to the side rail. Help or links to old threads appreciated

ok it doesn't look like the cue-table pasted right. I'll try again if it doesn't.

ok now if someone can show me how to make the shot after three tries I'll be happy.
 
You got it about right...every table is a little different, some you have to be closer to center with CB.

One thing you'll never WEI though is the stroke, gotta really stroke it low, but not slammm it. smooothe
 
That's about the right angle (aim the 1 ball less than 1/4 diamond to the right of the center diamond on the end rail). Hit it straight on with draw to move the 1 ball toward the corner pocket; add right sidespin to move the 2 ball toward the same corner pocket (banking 2 rails the long way).

It's theoretically possible to make the 1 ball without draw, but draw makes it much more likely.

Surprisingly, it does go.

I just tried it and made it 2 times in 3 attempts. I doubt that % would hold up over more attempts but it is definitely makeable. The key, I believe, is to hit the CB hard enough so that it is still rotating backwards at the time of impact but soft enough to transfer maximum spin to the OB.
 
Willie Jopling shows this shot on his trick shot and one pocket dvds. He taught me the shot years ago, and described it this way: Both OB's are frozen in a straight line, on the footspot. The CB is placed 1/2 diamond either side of the center line. You can put the CB on the headstring, like the wei diagram shows, but the shot is much easier to learn, if you put it nearer the center of the table, but on the same line. You aim THROUGH the back ball, paying no attention to the ball in front. The shot is made with just draw, and as someone else mentioned, it must still be spinning backwards when it hits the head ball in the pair. Too much speed and the front ball goes long to the short rail...too little, and it goes short. It does not require any english on the CB...and hit well the shot can pocket both balls in the same pocket.

I was taught to hit it just hard enough so that the 2-ball comes to rest just after it hits the foot rail the second time.

As soon as I was done watching the Efren-Frost DVD, thats the first shot I tried at the poolhall. It is a beautiful shot I've never seen before. I slow-mo'd the DVD like,10 times trying to see what Efren put on the cue ball to make the shot. Thanks for the great thread and all the info from the posters, I learned some other things about the shot I did not know. Back to the poolhall I go.;) Thanks...Ron

Thanks for the great replies. I haven't gotten to try it out since the post but in the past I've been pretty successful at throwing the two ball towards my pocket and the one to the side rail. I'll probably start closer to the head ball and gradually move back to see how I do.

That shot is called the "Sonny Springer Special" atleast that what I call it in my world. Here is the url that made it famous. http://www.onepocket.org/SonnySpringer4.htm Willie Joplin lines this shot up from either one of the outside short rail diamonds to the back ball not the front ball with his cue stick.
