Cue ball draw with this?

I have just started to play One Pocket and enjoy it very much. Here are my questions.

1). How to determine the break?

2). As a player in this game do you want the break or not and why?

Thanks in advance.

Break is a advantage being that u can break and put balls on ur side most of time it's alternate break

Usually a coin flip to start the match. Alternate breaks thereafter.

Breaking is usually a 1-2 ball advantage, depending on skill level.

Breaking is your friend. :):)

Break

Hey Joe. The break is usually worth a ball. But your also going to find that its one of the most important shots in one pocket. Make darn sure when your breaking that you keep the balls tight. Especially the corner ball facing your opponents pocket. You don't want it leaking out.:frown:

And out...

As others have said, the break is important, probably at least a ball if you break well.
One of the first spots in One Pocket is the break.

As Crabbcat said, if you let that corner ball loose towards your opponent's hole, you might sell the whole game out. And the answer shot after the break can turn a game around... I saw Ronnie Allen turn an almost perfect break around, kicked two balls over towards his hole, left whitey near his opponents' hole.

Funny, at first I read that as "One of the first shots in One Pocket is the break."

Either way, it's true.

Hey John,

Thanks for the info. I'm just getting started with this game and there is a lot to learn. It's a whole different mindset. Making balls is almost an after thought from the defensive moves, especially if you are not breaking. Hope you and yours are well.

:) No, I meant 'spots'... as in, I'll play you 9 to 7 and the breaks, meaning you break every time... that's worth at least a ball, maybe two.. big time spot.

If you are just starting to play One Pocket, here are two things to do:
Buy the book, Upscale One Pocket.
Join the web site, OnePocket.org

Yep, I realized that. I just thought it would be funny if someone had posted that the break shot is "one of the first shots in One Pocket."

Watch as much one pocket as you can, especially with matches that include Efren, Cliff Joyner, Scott Frost and Alex Pagulayan.

Speed is one of the most if not the most important aspect to one pocket. Play cheap by the game and be prepared to lose a lot. Even a guy who runs balls well can get dusted by somebody who has a decent understanding of one pocket.

Welcome to the club. 1P is fun. You'll get better and understand the puzzle as you go along. Watch videos. A book called "One Pocket ....a game of controlled aggression" by Tom Wirth is one of the best books ever published. Consider it. Have fun...enjoy the game.

Does anyone remember when the " kick-break " was a big fad? Even if it resulted in a foul. As said, polish up on your pocket speed AND esp all diff kind of banks.

:) +1...

JG, I always think several moves ahead in One Pocket, like chess. There's traps, defensive, aggressive, waiting for your opponent to slip up... and about every shot you can think of to pot a ball, banks, kisses, caroms, etc...

Welcome to One Pocket...

I was taught one pocket by a guy named The Mighty Geese. He was prob top three in the world. He told me the absolute best advice on one pocket I've ever heard before or since.

Awesome, I will try you some with you giving up 15-4 then for $500 a game. I was only mentored by some guy in the bar we called Duckie. He gave me a little device called the Arrow and told me it would be all I ever need. To date the using the Arrow I am only about $46,000 down.
